{"id":24,"date":"2012-02-17T19:50:17","date_gmt":"2012-02-17T19:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/?p=24"},"modified":"2012-02-17T20:00:46","modified_gmt":"2012-02-17T20:00:46","slug":"community-services-monthly-report-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/2012\/02\/17\/community-services-monthly-report-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Services Monthly Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SENIOR <\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">CENTER<\/span><\/strong> (Nancy Ream Enabnit &amp; Dena Isbell)<br \/>\nVolunteer Meals-on-wheels drivers do much more than deliver food.\u00a0 They provide an on-site welfare check for some of our community\u2019s most frail individuals.\u00a0 This past month, in two separate incidents, drivers noticed unusual circumstances as they approached the homes of the meal recipients.\u00a0 Drivers alerted Center staff and the authorities and, as it turned out, both people had passed away over the weekend.\u00a0 Currently there are 50 individuals receiving hot meals on four separate routes.\u00a0 Sixteen regular drivers and a crew of back-up drivers are at the ready to make these deliveries and provide a valuable safety check as well.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">PARKS<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nTwo Park Board members resigned after many years of service.\u00a0 Ted Ladd and Rhonda Freeman have made many contributions toSandy\u2019s park system, and we wish them well in their future pursuits.\u00a0 \u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">RECREATION<\/span><\/strong> (Sarah Richardson)<br \/>\nMany new computer classes are being offered, and participation is steadily growing. Choices range from basic computer skills to mastering the iPad.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Healthy Start free play group continues to grow.\u00a0 The center is fortunate to have great volunteers, coordinated throughClackamasCounty, leading the activities. The play group meets on Wednesdays from10:30-Noonand includes special holiday activities, crafts and snacks.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nMountain Storm Youth Basketball for 5<sup>th<\/sup> and 6<sup>th<\/sup> graders kicked off the game season and the K-2 instructional program continued in January as well.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe seniors will be \u201cwalking the red carpet\u201d for a special Oscar Party on February 26<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">TRANSIT<\/span><\/strong> (Julie Stephens)<br \/>\nTotal ridership this month was 19,958, representing a 1.5% increase over the same period last year.\u00a0 All services were relatively flat with the exception of ED (Elderly &amp; Disabled) service to out-of-area medical appointments, which continued an upward trend.\u00a0 It increased by 32% over the same period last year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBack-to-back meetings with the project management team, public and Council furthered the refinement of the preferred option for theTransitCenter.\u00a0 Pre-app materials will follow via email.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWe took delivery of the third Gillig bus this month.\u00a0 It went into service on the 24th following required documentation, maintenance training and graphic installation.\u00a0 Staff and Contractor worked with prospective new maintenance vendors because, after at least eleven years of reliable service, Mt.
