August finished off with the softball Tournament which was August 1st and 2nd with all 12 teams competing for the championship.\u00a0 The Hoodlums ended up winning and being undefeated the whole season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The summer finished up with some sport camps that were contracted out with Kidokinetics. The camp held their \u201cshoot to score\u2019 which included soccer, basketball and hockey under the covered area at Deer Pointe. The Drop In was a huge success.\u00a0 We had 30 vendors that included food, drinks and other local businesses.\u00a0 All the vendors did really well and want to come back next year.\u00a0 We had 69 competitors between skate & bike.\u00a0 It looked like we had over 1000 people each day coming into the park. Classes meet once a week on either Tuesday or Wednesday at the Kelso Gym. Caroleana made a new stroke postcard to help with education during home visits. In the United States alone, a stroke occurs every 40 seconds! Education in hopes of prevention, is her goal. As during a stroke every minute counts, and FAST treatment can lessen the brain damage caused by a stroke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Helped the team this month by packing coolers several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We continued to hold congregate lunches on Tuesdays. In the month of August we served on 4 Tuesdays, with a total of 105 meals served in the month. Those who attended senior lunch service donated $208 towards the nutrition program for the month of August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Clackamas County Energy Assistance<\/strong> summer program continued this month and Caroleana helped 9 households with their submission of applications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Coordinated three new\u00a0Lunch and Learns for the summer: 2 in August and one for September.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The \u2018 no cooking freezer jam\u2019 was very successful and had 10 in attendance. The second August presentation by Cogir, was successful as well, as one couple was able to get specific questions answered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Caroleana also finalized the Grief workshops with Mt Hood Hospice for the Fall. We\u2019re making a slight change to the workshop format in hopes of having more participants attend. The new series is called; Breathe, Move, Express<\/strong>. On the third Tuesday of each month, we will offer a Breathe, Move, Express<\/strong> workshop\u2014a welcoming space that combines breathwork, movement, and creative expression to support healing and overall well-being. Each session will include 15 minutes of art creation<\/strong>. The Adult League Slow-Pitch Softball season came to a close with a 12-team, two-game elimination-style tournament held over 2.5 days. I was on site throughout the tournament to check in with teams, coordinate with umpires, update brackets, answer questions, and provide logistical support as needed. Being present throughout the tournament helped ensure the season concluded safely, smoothly, and with a positive experience for participants.
The Drop-In \u2013 Cedar Park Featuring Basecamp<\/strong>
After months of planning and coordination, we hosted Sandy\u2019s first large-scale event at Cedar Park Featuring Basecamp. The two-day event included approximately 20 local and regional vendors offering activities, products, and giveaways, along with seven food and beverage vendors.
The event also featured a two-day bike and skate competition, bringing riders and skaters from the local community and region together at Basecamp. Approximately 2,600 visits<\/strong> were recorded at the park during the weekend, compared to approximately 600\u2013800 visits during a typical weekend. The strong attendance and overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, vendors, spectators, and community members made the first year of The Drop-In a significant success. We are already looking forward to building on the event and \u201cDropping In\u201d again next year.
Community Center Vandalism Response<\/strong>
Multiple businesses in the area experienced vandalism during the month, including the Community\/Senior Center, where rocks were thrown through windows. Staff responded quickly by cleaning and securing the affected areas and ensuring the building remained safe and operational. Contractors were subsequently hired to replace the damaged windows.
While the incident was unfortunate, it provided another example of the responsiveness and dedication of our staff. The team acted quickly to address the damage while ensuring that the incident did not disrupt the day-to-day operations or the level of service and care we provide to our clients and the community.
Senior Services Support<\/strong>
August is a particularly busy time for many of our staff, and several team members were out on well-deserved vacations throughout the month. This provided me with an opportunity to step into Senior Services in a more direct capacity and support our Transportation and Congregate Meal programs.
I provided multiple transportation rides for local older adults, helping ensure they were able to participate in social activities, attend Congregate Meals, and maintain important connections within the community. I also assisted with preparing, cooking, and serving lunch during Congregate Meals. These opportunities allowed me to work directly with our clients, strengthen relationships, and gain additional perspective on the day-to-day needs of the older adults we serve.
Supporting these programs directly was a valuable reminder of the importance of the services our Senior Services team provides and the impact they have on the daily lives of members of our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

presence and improve the quality and consistency of images available through media

\uf0b7 The Supplemental Environmental Project, completed in partnership with the
Clackamas River Basin Council, has concluded successfully. The project cleared and
treated invasive and undesirable vegetation, including blackberries and holly; installed
more than 14,000 native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants; and enhanced nearly 40
acres of riparian habitat along the Tickle Creek Trail.
\uf0b7 With the City Hall renovation nearing completion, new building lettering was installed
to clearly identify City Hall and improve the building\u2019s visibility.
\uf0b7 The team completed 101 workorders in the month of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\uf0b7 A vehicle accident resulted in damage to the Veterans Memorial, destroying eight
large plants. Staff will replace the damaged plantings as part of the site restoration.
\uf0b7 Vandalism at the Community Center resulted in two large broken windows. Staff
responded promptly and secured the affected areas while replacement windows were
