{"id":37,"date":"2012-03-12T20:12:57","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T20:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/?p=37"},"modified":"2012-03-15T00:29:48","modified_gmt":"2012-03-15T00:29:48","slug":"community-services-monthly-report-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/2012\/03\/12\/community-services-monthly-report-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Services Monthly Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SENIOR <\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">CENTER<\/span><\/strong> (Nancy Ream Enabnit &amp; Dena Isbell)<br \/>\nA fun, new event was added in February as Center members had a chance to attend the <em>Walk the Red Carpet <\/em>Oscar Party.\u00a0 Over 20 people dressed in their formal finery and took advantage of the evening\u2019s activities (coordinated by Sarah Richardson and assisted by Dena Isbell).\u00a0 Each participant was interviewed as she\/he made her\/his Red Carpet entrance.\u00a0 A social hour with food and drink (which may or may not have contained alcohol) started the evening.\u00a0 Folks made their predictions and watched as the televised broadcast of the Academy Awards unfolded.\u00a0 Prizes were given for fanciest clothes, most accurate predictions, etc.\u00a0 The party earned rave reviews.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">PARKS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Permanent signs are in place along the Tickle Creek Trail.\u00a0 A fourth dog waste station\/trash can was added at the entrance just west of 370<sup>th<\/sup> and the receptacle at KnollwoodPark was moved to a more optimal location.\u00a0 It is still in the park but closer to the trail.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">RECREATION<\/span><\/strong> (Sarah Richardson)<br \/>\nComputer classes, launched a year ago, continue to grow and develop. Registration has increased, and more people are learning about the new classes. In addition to basic computer classes, residents can learn more about website development and social media.<\/p>\n<p>Preparations for summer 2012 have begun, and some new twists on regular programs are planned. Look for, among others, new field trips, voice lessons, and additional outdoor activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">TRANSIT<\/span><\/strong> (Julie Stephens)<br \/>\nTotal ridership this month was 20,462, representing a 13% increase over the same period last year.\u00a0 All services transported more riders, lead bySAM-Estacada with an increase of 22.3% and ED with 23.6%, thenSTAR at 12.9% and Sam-Gresham at 12%.\u00a0 It\u2019s a bit early to identify with certainty, but the sharp increase follows the spike in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>Progress continues on theTransitCenter.<\/p>\n<p>Following the delivery of the third Gillig bus, the large transit vehicles each spent extra time in maintenance for catch-up TLC.<\/p>\n<p>Two vehicles were surplused through a bid process.\u00a0 The minivan sold for $7500; the OPUS received no bids and will need further effort to sell.<\/p>\n<p>TheTransit Advisory Committee convened to discuss topics such as the Transit Center and adding etched art to the passenger shelters.\u00a0 Mayor King attended the meeting and recommended using the branded bus graphic ofMt.Hoodfor the art pattern.
