{"id":529,"date":"2017-07-12T22:00:04","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T22:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/?p=529"},"modified":"2017-07-12T22:00:51","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T22:00:51","slug":"community-services-june-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/2017\/07\/12\/community-services-june-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Services ~ June 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senior Center<\/p>\n<p>Seniors enjoyed various trips including a trip to the Portland Japanese Garden, Elk Rock, Crystal S pring Rhododendron Garden and Tenino Wolf Haven. \u00a0Additionally, \u00a0a group of adults along with the Mt. Hood Athletic Center seniors spent their Memorial Day at the Spirit Mountain Casino.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Center also had a Yard sale to fundraiser for the senior center. \u00a0We had 7 different families sell items as well as staff sold coffee and cookies.<\/p>\n<p>Parks<\/p>\n<p>In conjuction with all City departments, City Council, Parks Board, Fire Dept, and Otto&#8217;s we hosted the second annual Longest Day Parkway on June 19th. \u00a0Each table who were \u00a0involved had free giveaways, a game or activitiy and provided information for the community members. \u00a0We had well over 200 participants who walked the course in the Sandy Bluff Park neighborhood. \u00a0In the park, the council served up hot dogs, lemonade, and ice cream. \u00a0Thank you for your participation.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0The following weekend June 24th was the 12th annual Noah&#8217;s Quest event which was also held at Sandy Bluff Park. \u00a0We have many people from all over the Metro area that participate in this very moving and emotional event. \u00a0140 walkers and runner registered. This event is for anyone that has lost a child or for those who would like to support those that have lost a child. \u00a0Each participant receives a pair socks, 12 doves were released, and bricks are sold for the pathway at Sandy Bluff Park.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">Recreation (Sarah Richardson)<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">Summer Camps, adult softball, and other programs kicked off in late June.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">After two successful summers with Camp Namanu the recreation department and Columbia Campfire shifted gears in order to be able to provide before and after care for campers. It is the hope that this program will help to support working parents. The camp is now based at Cedar Ridge and is open from\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">7:00am-6:00pm<\/span><\/span>. Campers can sign up by the week or by the day giving families optimal flexibility.\u00a0 Each week features a different theme and includes a trip to the resident Camp Namanu where campers can swim, experience archery and enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting and a traditional camp experience.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">A new Mountain Biking Camp was developed with Wenzel Coaching. With great trails surrounding Sandy and the new availability of the Cedar Ridge field it was a natural fit.
