{"id":72,"date":"2012-07-09T23:59:26","date_gmt":"2012-07-09T23:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/?p=72"},"modified":"2012-07-09T23:59:26","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T23:59:26","slug":"monthly-report-june-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/communityservices\/2012\/07\/09\/monthly-report-june-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Monthly Report ~ June 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SENIOR <\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">CENTER<\/span><\/strong> (Nancy Ream Enabnit)<br \/>\nCenter members are gearing up for the Sandy Mountain Festival Pie &amp; Cookie booth.\u00a0 Proceeds from the efforts benefit the area\u2019s meals-on-wheels program.\u00a0 Many thanks to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary who helped mix cookie dough.\u00a0 Once again the Festival music at the Birdcage Theater got a jumpstart from the center\u2019s own Silvertones band and vocal group.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">PARKS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>New members were approved by City Council for appointment to the Park Board just in time for the annual park tour.\u00a0 Working towards the updated Park Master Plan, board members completed facility inventory forms for each of Sandy\u2019s Parks.\u00a0 Christine Gaare, wife of new board member Craig, provided valuable information on effective survey techniques.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">RECREATION<\/span><\/strong> (Sarah Richardson)<br \/>\nAdult Coed Softball is back to a full 14 teams for 2012, up from 10 teams in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>A new program for middle school aged kids combines a visit to learn about volunteer opportunities with the Oregon Humane Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Oregon Food Bank with lunch and a movie.<\/p>\n<p>Classes for pre-school aged kids in dance and soccer are very popular this summer with growth in both programs.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of Martial Arts programs for all ages continues to expand and grow in popularity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 7<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Noah\u2019s Quest 5k\/10k Walk &amp; Run was held on June 30<sup>th<\/sup>. \u00a0New this year was a 1k Kiddie Run featuring an enthusiastic group of boys and girls.\u00a0 About 170 people participated in all events.<\/p>\n<p>Check out this year\u2019s Sandy Summer Sounds &amp; Starlight Cinema schedule at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandysummersounds.com\/\">www.sandysummersounds.com<\/a> or pick up a nifty brochure at any City building.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">TRANSIT<\/span><\/strong> (Julie Stephens)<br \/>\nTotal ridership this month was 22,348, representing just under a 2% decrease from the same period last year.\u00a0 The SAM-Gresham and STAR were down by approximately 2%, while SAM-Estacada decreased 9.4%.
