{"id":241,"date":"2016-07-14T22:29:50","date_gmt":"2016-07-14T22:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/?p=241"},"modified":"2016-07-14T22:29:50","modified_gmt":"2016-07-14T22:29:50","slug":"economic-development-monthly-report-june-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/2016\/07\/14\/economic-development-monthly-report-june-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic Development \u2013 Monthly Report \u2013 June 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, etc.): <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Goodwill Industries site (formerly Oja Lumber)<\/u>:\u00a0 With the grading stage now complete, construction is starting on the primary building on site (see picture below).\u00a0 Goodwill Industries projects a December 2016 completion date for both the new Goodwill building and the additional 4,000 square foot retail building.\u00a0 The retail building has not pre-leased to anyone yet as far as I know \u2013 still 100% available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/goodwill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-242\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/goodwill-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"goodwill\" width=\"335\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><u>Old Mike\u2019s Tire location<\/u>:\u00a0 This space has recently had another business spring up within it\u2019s walls virtually overnight.\u00a0 The space is now occupied by a business called <strong>Events Etc NW<\/strong>, which according to their front counter employee is an event rental company catering primarily to weddings, bar mitzvahs and similarly-sized events.\u00a0 They have not yet applied for a business license \u2013 although an application was delivered to the premises, the owner was out of town and it is unclear if the staff had the appropriate information available to fill it out.\u00a0 Noryne and I will follow up with this business over the next couple of weeks to make sure that they are properly licensed and inspected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This complex is now 100% occupied.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Old Thrifty Dollar location<\/u>:\u00a0 This space has been subdivided and will feature two brand new businesses.\u00a0 The smaller space next to the Gateway Pub will become <strong>BDK\u2019s Boardshop<\/strong>, Sandy\u2019s newest \u201cskate, surf \u2018n snowboard\u201d shop, but will primarily feature apparel and decks for skateboard-oriented millenials as well as a \u201cskateboard museum\u201d.\u00a0 The space between this store and Rip City Glass will be <strong>Imagine Anything Art Gallery<\/strong>, Sandy\u2019s second art gallery and art retailer.\u00a0 Owner Allen Wilson and his partner sell art installations (primarily segmented landscapes on canvas or metallic backgrounds) at regional shows like the Mountain Festival and Timber Festival around the Northwest, but needed a \u201chome base\u201d.\u00a0 The space will serve as a storage facility for their significant collection as well as a gallery for one of them to show and sell from while the other is on the road.\u00a0 Their gallery promises to be an ever-changing space complete with moveable walls, and they already have some of their art prominently posted in the front of the gallery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This complex is now 100% occupied.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Old Paris Caf\u00e9 space<\/u>:\u00a0 We are finally seeing some progress at this site.\u00a0 Julie Littlepage\u2019s day care center has pulled permits and is currently the in process of building out the interior of the business, presumably to be open in time for the coming school year.\u00a0 We are anticipating a late August opening\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>This complex is now 100% occupied.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Project work:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City of Sandy Omnibus Bicycle Tourism Project: 95% complete \u2013 remaining project tasks are a) receiving 3 wayfinding signs (has shipped but has not arrived yet) and installing them, and b) receiving two-sided weatherproof kiosk (ordered but not shipped yet) and installing at bike plaza with bike map(s) displayed on each side.\u00a0 This project should be 100% complete by next monthly report.<\/li>\n<li>2017 Clackamas County Tourism Development Grant: I attended the required pre-application meeting for the next grant cycle, and I am delighted to say that there have been a few positive changes made to the program.
