{"id":286,"date":"2017-02-04T00:15:48","date_gmt":"2017-02-04T00:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/?p=286"},"modified":"2017-02-04T00:31:37","modified_gmt":"2017-02-04T00:31:37","slug":"economic-development-monthly-report-january-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/2017\/02\/04\/economic-development-monthly-report-january-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic Development \u2013 Monthly Report \u2013 January 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, etc.): <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Goodwill Industries site (formerly Oja Lumber)<\/u>:\u00a0 This project looks to be 90+% complete.<\/p>\n<p>[Goodwill Industries has announced a February 9th Grand Opening date \u2013 Festivities will start at 7:00 AM and are open to the public. \u00a0The additional 4,000 square foot retail building has not pre-leased to anyone yet as far as I know \u2013 still 100% available to the best of my knowledge.\u00a0 However, there are rumors out in the community that this business or that has already leased the building.\u00a0 I am attempting to get Urban Works to confirm availability for me, and will update when I have something to report.\u00a0 At this time, I have no information to contradict available status.]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-288\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361-1024x471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361-1024x471.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361-768x353.jpg 768w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/02\/DSCN1361-500x230.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><u>La Bamba \u201cNuevo\u201d<\/u>:\u00a0 Nothing new to report at this site at the moment.\u00a0 Work continues on both interior and exterior.\u00a0 Grand opening on Cinco de Mayo, perhaps?<\/p>\n<p><u>Carlson property<\/u>:\u00a0 There has been a flurry of work going on at this site over the last few weeks, but been no calls for final inspections yet.\u00a0 It is starting to look like Sandy\u2019s inaugural food cart pod may be open for the<\/p>\n<p><u>Scooter\u2019s Sports Bar &amp; Restaurant (Sandy Marketplace)<\/u>:\u00a0 Had a chance to stop in and check out Mr. Detweiler\u2019s progress on this space.\u00a0 He seems to be about 50% complete with the interior remodel, and the results are very encouraging so far.\u00a0 The kitchen was in fairly bad shape when he started, and there are some pieces of equipment that will have to be replaced, but it will be significantly better once complete.\u00a0 I am very impressed with the interior design work \u2013 very different from what was there previously, and seems well thought out.\u00a0 Shooting for a spring opening\u2026<\/p>\n<p><u>The Elusive Trout<\/u>:\u00a0 According to the owner, this business is closed and on temporary hiatus due to some internal issues.\u00a0 They intend to re-open sometime in February after making some minor changes.\u00a0 We are working with the owner improved signage and visibility issues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project work:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>City departmental webpages<\/u>: This project is on hold for the next few months while EvoGov does a site upgrade for us.\u00a0 City manager, IT Director and I will be doing some training with EvoGov\u2019s CEO involving our new platform on 2\/7.\u00a0 The look of the page should not change significantly, but we are being told that functionality will increase markedly.<\/li>\n<li><u>Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant<\/u>: I am currently in the beginning processes of putting together an application for this grant for Alan Fleischman\u2019s property across the street from the liquor store. \u00a0The purpose of the OMSRG program is to <em>\u201ca) acquire, rehabilitate, and construct buildings on properties in designated downtown areas statewide; and b) facilitate community revitalization that will lead to private investment, job creation or retention, establishing or expanding viable businesses, or creating a stronger tax base\u201d.<\/em> \u00a0The plan is to rehab the entire building and convert it into small commercial office suites, which would literally hit every single one of the above points.\u00a0 The application is extremely long and complicated, and is going to require a good portion of my time for the next 5-6 weeks (due date: March 17).\u00a0 However, I will have some assistance from ClackCo Business &amp; Economic Development going forward.<\/li>\n<li><u>Economic Development Strategy update<\/u>: In process.\u00a0 This document requires a complete overhaul of entire sections that are no longer relevant.\u00a0 I am also increasing the amount of relevant demographic data available. \u00a0As much of my time will be spent on the above project for the next month, look for this updated report in April.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conferences\/training:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January 19 \u2013 ICSC P3 Retail: Food Carts (Sentinel Hotel, Portland): seminar on food carts, micro kitchens and pop-up retail.<\/li>\n<li>January 31 &#8211;
