{"id":296,"date":"2017-03-17T01:04:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T01:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/?p=296"},"modified":"2017-03-17T01:04:39","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T01:04:39","slug":"economic-development-monthly-report-february-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/2017\/03\/17\/economic-development-monthly-report-february-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic Development \u2013 Monthly Report \u2013 February 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, etc.): <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Goodwill Industries site (formerly Oja Lumber)<\/u>: \u00a0Open for business.<\/p>\n<p><u>La Bamba \u201cNuevo\u201d<\/u>:\u00a0 Nothing new to report at this site at the moment, other than we have been working with Carlo to close a couple of open fa\u00e7ade grant projects.\u00a0 The sidewalks are now complete and Mr. Vicenttin has received his fa\u00e7ade outlay for that project.\u00a0 We have also given him a majority of the remaining outstanding funds for his larger fa\u00e7ade grant in the interest of being \u201cbusiness-friendly\u201d and helping him with his cash flow.\u00a0 Mr. Vicenttin seems very happy with these developments, and work continues.<\/p>\n<p><u>Timberline Meats<\/u>:\u00a0 This project seems to be kicking into high gear at the moment.\u00a0 Mr. Drucker\u2019s biggest concern with this project was the availability of good contractors \u2013 with the economy storming along as it has been for the past few years, it seems that decent contractors of all stripes that are available are hard to nail down.\u00a0 However, judging from the picture below, it seems Mr. Drucker has solved this problem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/03\/DSCN1385.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-298\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/03\/DSCN1385-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Carlson property<\/u>:\u00a0 Utility work seems to be complete, and the lot seems to be in the beginning stages of being paved.\u00a0 However, no inspections other than backflow have been requested as of yet.<\/p>\n<p><u>Scooter\u2019s Sports Bar &amp; Restaurant (Sandy Marketplace)<\/u>:\u00a0 Had a chance to stop in and check out Mr. Detweiler\u2019s progress on this space.\u00a0 He seems to be about 65% complete with the interior remodel, and is shooting for an April opening.\u00a0 He is also a Fa\u00e7ade Grant recipient; grant funding will be covering a good portion of the exterior paint on the building and the roof.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a shot of where the interior is right now:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\"><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/03\/DSCN1387.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-299\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2017\/03\/DSCN1387-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><u>The Elusive Trout<\/u>:\u00a0 This business seems to be open again.\u00a0 When I last spoke with the owner, she was considering making changes to the business, including operating with a skeleton crew and adding a video poker room.\u00a0 I have not had a chance to speak with her yet since she reopened.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project work:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>City departmental webpages<\/u>: We have recently heard back from EvoGov, and there are now promises of upgrades and training in the near future.\u00a0 I am looking forward to scheduling this training when it becomes available.\u00a0 I am also starting on revamping the Planning &amp; Building and will be working directly with that staff to get their input on changes that they would like to see.<\/li>\n<li><u>Planning &amp; Building Department<\/u>: With the recent changes to this department, the City Manager asked me to work with the Interim Planning &amp; Building Director to start cleaning up projects and procedures.\u00a0 I have assisted with getting the Fa\u00e7ade Grant Program running smoothly (reviewed contracts with BEH, rewrote program guidelines, installed improved procedures, worked to get all grantees current, started communications with potential 2017 grantees, etc.)<\/li>\n<li><u>Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant<\/u>: Unfortunately, I was not able to procure this grant for the property owner on Pioneer Blvd.\u00a0 Given that I found out about the grant fairly late in the process, and that the grant application was extremely complicated, it was going to be a long shot from the get go.\u00a0 In addition, with the staffing changes that have occurred since my last report, I was called upon to assist the Planning &amp; Building Department with projects until we can return to proper staffing levels over there.\u00a0 Rather than rush to put together an unsatisfactory application, my suggestion to the property owner was that we try again next year, and start about a month earlier.\u00a0 He was understandably disappointed, but understood the limitations.<\/li>\n<li><u>Connelly demolitions<\/u>: We have received back bids, and Konell Construction was the winner at $43,707.\u00a0 This is on the agenda for the 4\/3 council meeting.<\/li>\n<li><u>Imagine Anything Art Gallery Grand Opening<\/u>: Sandy\u2019s newest art gallery had their grand opening on March 3, and it couldn\u2019t have gone better.\u00a0 The Ec Dev office and the Chamber both helped Allen and Brian publicize the event on social media, and as the Mayor can report, turnout was absolutely amazing.\u00a0 We actually put the 5:30 pm ribbon cutting off until around 8:00 pm, as both owners were selling their wares nonstop until that time.\u00a0 The owners told me that they sold over $3,000 in artwork that night.\u00a0 Special thanks to Mayor King, Buddha Kat Winery and Khrys Jones at the Chamber for helping welcome a great new business to town!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conferences\/training:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Nothing this month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, etc.): Goodwill Industries site (formerly Oja Lumber): \u00a0Open for business.
