{"id":534,"date":"2023-03-02T17:26:52","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T17:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/?p=534"},"modified":"2023-03-02T17:26:52","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T17:26:52","slug":"economic-development-monthly-report-february-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/2023\/03\/02\/economic-development-monthly-report-february-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Economic Development \u2013 Monthly Report \u2013 February 2023<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Internal projects<\/strong><\/em><strong>:&nbsp; <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Permanent Outdoor Covered Structures grant program<\/strong>:\u00a0 The status of the first round of this program is reviewed semi-monthly at the City of Sandy Ec Dev Advisory Board meeting \u2013 here is the status of the program as of February 2023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tollgate Inn &#8212; Staff is currently working on developing a scope of work for this project.  We will be going out to bid for this project in March.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All other projects are now structurally complete and under contract.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three applicants from the first round of this program have already satisfied their financial responsibilities for the applicant portion of the covered structure project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Covered Structures Round 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 Designs for the second round of the City of Sandy Covered Structures grant program were reviewed at the SURA and City Council meetings on January 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, 2022.\u00a0 Here is the status for this round of the program as of February 2023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La Bamba Mexican Restaurant &#8212; Completed July 21st, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Smoky Hearth &#8212; Completed August 2nd, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wippersnapper&#8217;s Kids Play Place &#8212; Completed February 15th, 2023 &#8212; see below.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thai Home &#8212; Project on hold due to applicant medical situation.  We checked in on the applicant again in November; still undergoing treatment, will check back with applicant later at beginning of Q2 of 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture2.jpg 1223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wippersnapper&#8217;s Kid&#8217;s Play Place covered structure project &#8211; completed February 15th, 2023<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Economic Development items:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl &#8211; Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, reports, etc.)<\/u><\/em>:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Economic Development Strategic Plan (EDSP) \u2013 current status: &nbsp;<\/strong>Sandy\u2019s first economic development strategic plan is entering into its final review phase.&nbsp; The Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) will review the final working draft of this document in two meetings, with the first of these meetings occurring at the inaugural EDAB meeting for 2023 on March 1<sup>st<\/sup>.&nbsp; Once the second review meeting is complete, our contractor (Community Attributes, Inc) will synthesize all of the EDAB\u2019s comments and consolidating them into the final draft of the document before presenting it to the Sandy City Council for final adjustments and approval.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New business \u2013 Sandbar BBQ (coming in March 2023):\u00a0 <\/strong>This new business could literally open any day now.\u00a0 Restaurant owner Clint Melville purchased the building from the Newberrys as part of the deal and is currently finishing up putting his personal touch on the interior prior to his grand opening.\u00a0 Mr. Melville has a wildly popular food cart in Portland called Rip City Grill and comes with a reputation for excellent barbecue.\u00a0 <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Sandbar-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/03\/Sandbar-830x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-536\" width=\"345\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Coming soon&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Internal Projects<\/u><\/em>:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Downtown maintenance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AF Downtown Maintenance<\/strong>:\u00a0 The Downtown Maintenance program is shut down for the season and will focus on specific individual maintenance items as they arise until we start the program back up again in the spring of 2023.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Street tree lighting:&nbsp; <\/strong>Holiday street tree lighting was taken down by the AntFarm Downtown Maintenance crew on February 27<sup>th<\/sup> and 28<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><s><u><br><\/u><\/s><\/em><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Economic Development Advisory Board<\/u><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EDAB has now approved bylaw amendments and the reappointment of Board Members Jones, Pietzold, Schwartz and Wipper at the regular Council meeting on February 6<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; The inaugural 2023 EDAB meeting is now scheduled for March 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary agenda item for the next meeting will be for the board to review and mark up a final draft of the Economic Development Strategic Plan prior to the plan receiving a final review by the Urban Renewal Board.&nbsp; UPDATE: This has now been split into two meetings so the board can dive deep on this version of the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Conferences\/training<\/u><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Highway 26 Steering Committee (February 14<sup>th<\/sup>) #2:&nbsp; This committee was arranged by Clackamas County Tourism &amp; Cultural Affairs (Mt.
