{"id":554,"date":"2023-06-07T23:05:53","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T23:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/?p=554"},"modified":"2023-06-08T23:15:30","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T23:15:30","slug":"economic-development-monthly-report-may-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/2023\/06\/07\/economic-development-monthly-report-may-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic Development \u2013 Monthly Report \u2013 May 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Internal projects<\/strong><\/em><strong>:&nbsp; <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Permanent Outdoor Covered Structures Program<\/strong>:&nbsp; The status of the first round of this program is reviewed semi-monthly at the City of Sandy Ec Dev Advisory Board meeting \u2013 here is the status of the program as of April 2023:<br>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tollgate Inn \u2013 We are currently waiting for some updated quotes for the false fa\u00e7ade that eliminate the knee wall for cost cutting purposes.&nbsp; These quotes will come back in 1-2 weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All other projects are now structurally complete and under contract.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three applicants from the first round of this program have already completely satisfied the financial responsibilities for the applicant portion of their project.<br><br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Covered Structures Round 2<\/strong>:&nbsp; Designs for the second round of the City of Sandy Covered Structures grant program were reviewed at the SURA and City Council meetings on January 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, 2022.&nbsp; Here is the status for this round of the program as of April 2023:<br><br><ul><li>La Bamba Mexican Restaurant \u2013 Completed July 21<sup>st<\/sup>, 2022.<\/li><\/ul><br><ul><li>The Smoky Hearth \u2013 Completed August 2<sup>nd <\/sup>, 2022.  <\/li><\/ul><br><ul><li>Thai Home \u2013 This restaurant was recently sold.&nbsp; Since the Covered Structures contract was with the previous owners, we have decided not to move forward on this one.&nbsp; This project is now cancelled.<\/li><\/ul><br><ul><li>Wippersnappers Kid\u2019s Play Place \u2013 Completed February 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2023.<\/li><\/ul><br><ul><li>One applicant from the second round of the program has already completely satisfied the financial responsibilities for the applicant portion of their project.<\/li><\/ul>  <br><ul><li><strong>Round 2 of the Covered Structures Program is now complete! <\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"423\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110-1024x423.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110-1024x423.png 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110-768x317.png 768w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110-500x207.png 500w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-10-142110.png 1466w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Economic Development items:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl &#8211; Commercial Properties (vacancies, new businesses, reports, etc.)<\/u><\/em>:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New business \u2013 38888 Pioneer Boulevard:&nbsp; <\/strong>This building was recently purchased by Marlin Good, an Estacada businessman.&nbsp; Marlin is looking to rehab this building and then turn it into a commercial rental property.&nbsp; He has had preliminary meetings with Development Services already and is having regular discussions with that department and the Ec Dev Department regarding his near future development plans.&nbsp; Watch this space.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Internal Projects<\/u><\/em>:<br><br><em>Downtown maintenance<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Flower baskets:&nbsp; <\/strong>They\u2019re up!&nbsp; And they look great as always.&nbsp; Once again, major kudos to our friends over at Cedarglen Floral as well as our AntFarm nightly watering crew.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>AF Downtown Maintenance<\/strong>:&nbsp; Work on the first tranche has begun with the crew cleaning up the grounds of Joe\u2019s Donuts (and their parking lot, which is owned by the City of Sandy) and in front of the Sandy Public Library.&nbsp; The rest of the first tranche is mostly work in the planter strips on Proctor.&nbsp; As always, if you have any general downtown maintenance issues you would like to see addressed this season, please let us know.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Economic Development Advisory Board<\/u><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was no EDAB meeting in May.&nbsp; Next meeting:&nbsp; June 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2023<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Econ Devl \u2013 Conferences\/training<\/u><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, we saw the culmination of the work completed by the Highway 26 Steering Committee end in a day-long workshop in both Welches and Sandy.\u00a0 The goals of the committee, which was hosted by members of Travel Oregon and Oregon\u2019s Mt. Hood Territory, was to identify and develop strategies through projects and events to get more outdoor recreation travel to the corridor and to encourage visitors to get out of their cars.\u00a0 While this kind of work is needed much more in the Villages than it is here, it is important to both Sandy and Welches as outdoor rec traffic is an important part of the economy in both communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-2048x1537.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/economicdevelopment\/files\/2023\/06\/B-min-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sandy portion of the workshop was well attended by Sandy\u2019s Ec Dev Manager, the Chamber Director and staff, the Chamber Board President and several local businesses, and included a walking tour of downtown Sandy tourism assets led by City staff.
