\nDr. Seuss’ Birthday – Sandy 134 parents and kids came to listen to a special Dr Suess storytime and eat cupcakes (more than triple last years’ attendance!), Hoodland 23.<\/p>\n

Architects in Schools – 87 kids and parents came to a reception at the Hoodland Library to see bridges built by 5th graders at Welches School after learning about architectural design.<\/p>\n

Vista Apartments – 93 kids and parents came to do literacy activities. Highlights this month were turtle day (with live turtles, and turtle activity sheets), and special guest Francisco Bautista who came to do a weaving demonstration.<\/p>\n

Read to the Dog – 11 kids read to Ananda in her 3 visits.<\/p>\n

Saturday Afternoon Kids’ Club – Sandy 36 kids and parents, Hoodland 16<\/p>\n

Wy’East Artisans Art Club – 41 kids and parents attended.<\/p>\n

Teen Programs<\/strong>
\n Special<\/strong>
\nTeen Flashlight Egg Hunt – 320 teens met in Meinig Park to search for eggs after dark. All teens went home with their pockets full of candy, and 6 lucky teens went home with gift certificates! This program was done in coordination with the Recreation Department and the Key Club at SHS.<\/p>\n

Teen Paint Nite – 24 teens created a painting with Melissa Lawrence, Library Board Secretary.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Teen Tech Week – We set up a banana piano for teens to play within the library using our Makey Makey.<\/p>\n

\nAdult Egg Hunt – 31 people to came to our first ever Adult Egg Hunt. The Egg Hunt was done in partnership with the Senior Center. A great time was had by all. Everyone went home with a few pieces of candy, and 6 lucky people went home with gift certificates!<\/p>\n

Sandy Seed Library –
\nSlugs…Ugh! How to Deal With Them in Your Garden – 16 people attended this program in the Gardening Education Series with special guest speaker Jim Kronenberg of the Clackamas County Master Gardeners.
\n13 volunteers helped stuff seed packets to get ready for Seed Library customers.<\/p>\n

Beyond Spring Cleaning With a Home Detox – 8 people attended this program at the Hoodland Library. The first is a wellness series with Genevieve White, Holistic Health Coach.<\/p>\n

Medicare Made Clear – 7 people came to listen to presenter Barb Clare discuss options available for persons eligible for Medicare.<\/p>\n

2 Truths and a Lie – 4 people came to hear Librarian Maureen Houck discuss how to spot Fake News.<\/p>\n

\nLibrary Coffee House – 115 people came to listen to Radio Stranger, eat treats from Tollgate Bakery, and drink Starbucks coffee.<\/p>\n

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) – 67 learners met with 55 tutors in 47 tutoring sessions.<\/p>\n

Paint Nite – 20 people came to create a painting with Melissa Lawrence, Library Board Secretary.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>Photography Group – 9 people came to listen to Peter Schwartz talk about preserving a local landmark using photography.<\/p>\n

Book Club –
\nMen’s Club 9 people came to discuss Killing Reagan : the violent assault that changed a presidency<\/em> by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard.
\nWomen’s Club 10 people came to discuss The Memory Keeper’s Daughter<\/em> by Kim Edwards.
\nMystery Club 10 people came.
\nHoodland 10 people came to discuss Never Let me Go<\/em> by Kazuo Ishiguro.<\/p>\n

\nThe Sandy Library has new art! Art by Sharon Hale Sandgren’s Door Stories will be on display at the library until May 31. Come take a look!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Hoodland Library has a new quilt on exhibit called Feathered Fans.\u00a0 Pieced by Jean Ludeman of the Mt Hood Piecemakers’ Club<\/p>\n

Handicapped Doors on Restrooms – We are in the process of having push button handicapped access added to our public restrooms at the Sandy Library.\u00a0 Please excuse our dust.<\/p>\n

Training<\/strong>
\n12 Library Staff got their First Aid\/CPR and Blood Borne Pathogen Training Certifications.\u00a0 2 more got them the first week of April.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Collections
\n<\/strong>We moved short stories out of general adult fiction!\u00a0 They are currently shelved on the low shelves in the adult fiction area.\u00a0 This is an experiment to see if short stories check out better by being separated from the general collection.\u00a0 If they do, we will find them a more permanent spot.<\/p>\n
