LINCC Libraries are starting a Library of Things!\u00a0 A Library of Things is a collection of items such as kitchenware, musical instruments, and games hosted at a library that you can check out with your library card.
\n8 LINCC libraries (including Sandy and Hoodland!) are planning to add collections in the coming year. We’re gathering feedback on what you would like to see in the collection.<\/p>\n

Take our\u00a0survey<\/a>\u00a0to help us decide what types of things to buy!\u00a0 The survey should take less than five minutes. We appreciate your time and your thoughts!<\/p>\n

Wy-East Artisans Art Club – Over the 4 weeks of January, 106 participants created: 3D Paper Art,\u00a0\u00a0Aboriginal Dot Art, Sculptured Snowmen, and Torn Paper Collage.<\/p>\n

Read to the Dog – We have 2 new dogs who are coming to the library to be read to!\u00a0 They started January 10th.\u00a0 They will be at the library every other Thursday from 6-7pm.\u00a0 Look for photos of Pran and Montessa next month!<\/p>\n

Watch a movie, then discuss.\u00a0 Kris LaMar, OSU Master Gardener, will lead a discussion after participants view the documentary.\u00a0 In January 18 people came to watch\u00a0“The Incredible Journey of the Butterflies”<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Noche de Comida y Comunidad – This resource fair at Vista organized by Katie Murphy was well attended by both community partners and Vista residents, with a total of 77 people.\u00a0 Antfarm made a meal which was shared by all in attendance.\u00a0 Then Vista residents could travel from table to table to talk to local service providers about what they offer.\u00a0 Each table had a Spanish speaker available to answer questions and talk about their programs and many had activities for kids.<\/p>\n

Staff Training and Confrences<\/strong>
\nSupervisory staff attended a webinar called the Librarians Guide to Homelessness with Ryan Dowd.\u00a0 Ryan Dowd has worked in homeless shelters almost his whole life (starting as a volunteer at age 13).\u00a0 He is the author of the book\u00a0The Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness: An Empathy-driven Approach to Solving Problems, Preventing Conflict, and Serving Everyone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Melissa Thompson (from Community Services) attended our staff meetidng to continue the conversation about the power of language and why language is important for inclusion.<\/p>\n

Two staff members attended a web seminar titled Taking STEAM Programs to the Next Level<\/p>\n

One staff member attended a 2 day Restorative Justice training with Clackamas County Juvenile Services.<\/p>\n

The Library Director attended the 5 day American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle.\u00a0 Highlights include: a pre-conference on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Eric Klinenberg’s talk about the library’s important role in creating opportunites for social connection, and Robin DiAngelo’s President’s Program (author of the book White Fragility: Why it’s so hard for white people to talk about racism).<\/p>\n
