{"id":384,"date":"2014-07-16T00:17:18","date_gmt":"2014-07-16T00:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/?p=384"},"modified":"2014-07-16T00:17:18","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T00:17:18","slug":"library-activities-june-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/2014\/07\/16\/library-activities-june-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Library Activities: June 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Summer Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #222222\">\n<li>We signed up 531 kids for Summer Reading at Sandy and 63<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0Hoodland<\/li>\n<li>We signed up 137 Teens for Summer Reading at Sandy and 17<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>at Hoodland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Programs\u00a0at the Sandy Library<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #222222\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">On June 3rd, three people attended the Technology Tutoring class for one-on-one assistance to help them negotiate their device or computer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">The First\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"aBn\" style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">\u00a0Coffee House was held June 6th. Brady Goss, honky tonk piano player extraordinaire, was a huge hit. We had people start arriving more than an hour before, and it was a full house all night (200 +). Brady is such a talented and delightful performer, he has created quite a following here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>June 14th was the Bigfoot party and Summer Reading Program kick off.We celebrated William Stafford by reading &#8220;Everyone Out Here Knows.&#8221; Kids went on a scavenger hunt, and made a craft. \u00a0During the scavenger hunt a boy said, &#8220;There he is! I see Bigfoot!&#8221;. His mom promptly shushed him and told him to pay attention. Then a couple of girls squealed in delight and excitement,\u00a0 &#8220;Look, look! It&#8217;s Bigfoot!&#8221;. \u00a0Kids went\u00a0running to look\u00a0out the windows to spot the elusive Bigfoot. \u00a0Bigfoot (Tracy Brown in a gorilla costume) did make a number of appearances, \u00a0peeking in the windows and then dashing off. \u00a020 kids and 15 adults attended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>June 19th was Greta Pedersen&#8217;s Science Of Sound Program. Greta\u00a0sang and showed the kids the science behind sound. 56 kids and 25 adults attended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-388\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"photo(2)\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo2-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #222222\">\n<li>On June 26th the Dragon Theater Puppets presented the show &#8220;You&#8217;re Electric&#8221;. \u00a050 kids and 25 adults attended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Programs at the Hoodland Library:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Hoodland Library Greta Pedersen did her &#8220;Science of Sound&#8221; show on June 17th. 10 kids and 10 adults attended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/SAstaff.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-387\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"photo(1)\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2014\/07\/photo1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #222222\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>Outreach<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>The final Vista program of the school year was held on\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\">June 5th<\/span>, with a small screen showing of the VISTA KIDS VIDEO for those who missed the big show. \u00a0The group\u00a0also visited over books and made a craft. Many kids expressed the desire to continue the programs during\u00a0the summer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Technology<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The Hoodland Library has WiFi! \u00a0Library patrons are catching on and starting to appear with their laptops to take advantage of the service.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Beth Scarth&#8217;s Retirement<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The library staff had a Tex-Mex potluck lunch for Beth on June 26th.The food was excellent\u00a0and Beth enjoyed herself.
