\n<\/a>Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Library Coffee House<\/strong> with Samsel & the Skirt, Wy’east Art guild reception, and Firwood Biome Art Project was a big success with 234 attending.<\/p>\n

We held the Third annual Poetry Slam<\/strong> at the Sandy Library on April 16th. \u00a065 people came to hear ten poets present their poetry. \u00a0Our winners were: \u00a0in the\u00a0Under 16 Category –\u00a0<\/b>Logan Crichton with the Poem: Friendship; in the\u00a016 and Over Category –\u00a0<\/b>Frank E. George IV with the Poem: A Life Beside the Sea; and in the\u00a0Group Category –\u00a0<\/b>“The Books Gang” Rylee and Damian with the Poem: If Books Could… \u00a0Poems will be published on the library website shortly.<\/p>\n

The Teen After Hours<\/strong> program on April 17th was a Scavenger Hunt. \u00a0The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members created 4 different hunts for the teens to go on. \u00a0Eight people attended, and had a great time matching their wits against the TAB.<\/p>\n

Sandy & Hoodland Library Photography Group<\/b> met for the first time on the 26th of April. A group of 4 interested individuals were in attendance. There have been other inquiries. A camera outing to Meinig Park is planned for the last Sunday in May. \u00a0Photos will be shared via a Flickr account.<\/p>\n

Marketing<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"HOfood\"<\/a>LINCC Food For Fines<\/b>!<\/strong>\u00a0took place in\u00a0all\u00a0Clackamas County Libraries during National Library Week (April 12-18). \u00a0For each item brought in, $1 in library fines was waived. \u00a0The Sandy Library collected 450 lbs of food for the Sandy Community Action Center, and Hoodland Library collected $250 lbs of food for the Neighborhood Missions. \u00a0Combined, we waived $424.90 in fines. \u00a0People seemed to respond enthusiastically to bringing in food.<\/p>\n

In honor of National Poetry Month, we painted the library with poetry<\/strong>; with a basket of poems for kids, and one for adults, as well as poetry origami displayed on shelves throughout the library.<\/p>\n

Adult Fiction Books<\/p><\/div>\n

In April, the Sandy Library installed pamphlet holders<\/strong> by the community bulletin board outside the community room, and moved new adult fiction books<\/strong> into the lobby area. \u00a0Our hope is that this will be a convenient impulse location for people coming in to pick up their holds. \u00a0As part of this move, an additional bookcase was moved into the Kids’ Room to house a collection of parenting materials<\/strong>, and the kids new non-fiction books<\/strong> are now found in the Kids’Room. \u00a0We have gotten very positive feedback from parents who were unable to leave their kids to get parenting\u00a0materials in the past.<\/p>\n

We started our Book Bundles<\/strong> program in the kids’ department. \u00a0Four books are chosen on a theme, and bundled together for parents to take home and read with their kids. \u00a0We’ve had many great comments on these!<\/p>\n

Our April adult book display<\/strong> –921 Biographies– was a big hit. We had 23 items go out.<\/div>\n

Preservation Week<\/b> was April 26th-May 2nd. We partnered with the Sandy Historical Society to make a display of book mending and restoration tools.<\/div>\n

In anticipation of summer bike riders and outdoor enthusiasts, we have a selection of Bike maps<\/strong> and local information at hand.The 2015 -2016 Oregon State Parks Guide<\/span> and the Official Visitor Guide<\/span>\u00a0published by Travel Oregon, as well as the Oregon State Map<\/span> published by ODOT are very popular brochures that are being taken by patrons and visitors in anticipation of summer travel and recreation<\/div>\n

Other<\/strong><\/div>\n
Maureen Skinner and Sarah McIntyre had a positive experience with the Clackamas County Juvenile Services Department<\/strong>. \u00a0The Library was listed as the victim in a case from last November, and the sentencing hearing took place on April 20th. \u00a0The court heard our statement, and appropriately sentenced the juvenile involved. \u00a0We highly reccommend going through the Victim Dialog with the mediators in the Juvenile Services Department.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
