Her work has earned numerous awards, including an Oregon Book Award, a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, the PEN West Fiction Prize, the James Tiptree Jr. Award, and a Whiting Writers Award.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On January 11, <strong>Barbara Virgilio<\/strong>, MSW from Mt. Hood Hospice shared about care options for end of life.\u00a0Barbara earned BA degrees in sociology and philosophy with a Certificate in Gerontology from Oregon State University. Barbara then attended Portland State University earning her Master of Social Work. \u00a0Barbara began working for Mt. Hood Hospice in 2007. \u00a0She often assists families in deciding about whether or where to move their loved ones when needed.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/brian-doyle-by-jerry-hart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-739\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/brian-doyle-by-jerry-hart-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"brian-doyle-by-jerry-hart\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/i>On January 16th,<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Brian Doyle<\/strong> spoke at the Hoodland Library.\u00a0Brian Doyle is the editor of Portland Magazine at the University of Portland, in Oregon. He is the author of many books, including the novels<i> Mink River<\/i> and <i>The Plover. The Grail, is\u00a0<\/i>his account of a year in a pinot noir vineyard in Oregon. Mr. Doyle\u2019s newest novel <i>Martin Marten <\/i>is set near Mt. Hood and the Zigzag river. \u00a0This event was standing room only, as 72 people attended.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SAT.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-740\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SAT-150x150.png\" alt=\"SAT\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SAT-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SAT.png 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>A free show from The Sandy Actors Theatre! \u00a0Thursday January 21st in the fireplace room of the Sandy Library. \u00a0SAT presented a few scenes from their upcoming play. \u00a0The <strong>Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr<\/strong> runs\u00a0from January 29th-February 21st at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandyactorstheatre.org\/\">Sandy Actors Theatre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0January 27, we held a <strong>Pajama Story Time and Teddy Bear Sleepover<\/strong> at\u00a0Hoodland Library. \u00a0Kids\u00a0Brought their second-most favorite stuffed buddy to the library for a special evening story time. \u00a0Their stuffed animal stayed overnight for a special party, kids picked them up the next day, along with pictures of their adventures! View the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5ohWIsF3n-U\">video<\/a>\u00a0(1:15)!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-741 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/AnimeDraft__5_-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"AnimeDraft__5_\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/AnimeDraft__5_-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/AnimeDraft__5_.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On January 27th we started a new <strong>Anime\u00a0Club<\/strong> at the Sandy Library. \u00a0This club is specifically for 6-8th graders to come together to share their passion for anime. \u00a0We\u2019ll watch some anime, talk about our favorites, eat snacks, and craft. \u00a023 kids attended our first meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On January 28th we held the first program in a <strong>Sustainability Series<\/strong> at the Sandy Library. It was for those interested in learning more about solar energy and the benefits, processes, costs and incentives associated with installing solar. \u00a0A free workshop by Solar Oregon, the region\u2019s solar education non-profit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SuzBlackaby.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-748\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SuzBlackaby-150x150.png\" alt=\"SuzBlackaby\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SuzBlackaby-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SuzBlackaby-298x300.png 298w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/SuzBlackaby.png 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>On January 30th, <strong>Susan Blackaby<\/strong> spoke at the Sandy Library. \u00a0Susan Blackaby is local children\u2019s author of the Brownie Groundhog series, Nest, Nook, and Cranny, and many others. \u00a0She spoke about the\u00a0writing process, sharing her stories and illustrations, and offered a craft. \u00a0This program\u00a0was geared towards parents and their 3-8 year old kids.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Administrative<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In January, the library changed from using Square for Credit Card transactions, to using <strong>Propay<\/strong>. \u00a0Propay has a number of benefits for us, as it can be used directly through our library software program, has a simpler interface, and has additional security measures in place.<\/p>\n<p>Planning for <strong>RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)<\/strong> continues for all Clackamas County libraries. \u00a0We may be tagging our items as early as May. \u00a0The goal is to have all items in our collection tagged by September 15th. \u00a0The RFID implementation will include new self-checkout units, RFID pads for staff stations, and possibly security gates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art Installation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The library is currently hosting <strong>Indian Art of the Northwest Coast<\/strong> from the collection of George and Colleen Hoyt. \u00a0This beautiful exhibit will be up at least through the month of\u00a0February.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26441.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-746 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26441-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2644\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26441-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26441.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26431.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-747 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26431-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2643\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26431-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_26431.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Programs On January 7th, Molly Gloss spoke at the Sandy Library. \u00a0Molly Gloss is the bestselling author of The Jump-Off Creek, The Dazzle of Day, Wild Life, The Hearts of Horses and Falling From Horses.
