April 1st was\u00a0Library Coffee House<\/strong> for 1st Friday.<\/p>\n

395 happy individuals listened to Terry Robb play his acoustic blues guitar. \u00a0There\u00a0was a special exhibit opening and presentation by the artists of the Wy\u2019East Artisans\u00a0Guild.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, April 7th at 6:30 pm in the Sandy Library Community Room,\u00a0Dr. Scott Burns spoke on the “Dynamic Geological History of Oregon<\/strong> with special emphasis on the region around Sandy”. \u00a025 people attended.<\/p>\n

On April 9th, we celebrated Beverly Cleary’s 100th birthday<\/strong> at the Sandy and Hoodland Libraries with cupcakes and board games!<\/p>\n

\"DojoLogo-page-001\"<\/a>April 12th was our first monthly Reader’s Theatre<\/strong> in coordination with Actor’s Dojo. \u00a0Actors Dojo and Sandy Library brought\u00a0you, young playwright, Meghan Kennedy. \u00a0For\u00a0a staged reading of her play, Too Much, Too Much, Too Many. <\/em>20 people attended.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

April is National Poetry Month! \u00a0We held the annual Poetry Slam<\/strong> at Sandy Library on April 14th, and an Open Mic Poetry<\/strong> reading at Hoodland Library on April 18th. \u00a060 people attended the Poetry Slam, and 6 people attended the open mic poetry. \u00a0Photos of the\u00a0Poetry Slam winners in the under 14, adult, and group categories below.\"IMG_9038\"<\/a> \"IMG_9040\"<\/a> \"IMG_9041\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"IamJazz\"<\/a>On April 28th we held a program for the National Day of Action for Transgender Youth<\/strong>. \u00a0Nunpa from Antfarm read the book, “I am Jazz.” Discussion followed led by Eric Overby and Lurissa Sponsler-Overby of PFLAG. Local resources\u00a0from PFLAG, GLSEN, and HRC were available.<\/h1>\n

\u00a0\"IMG_1154\"<\/a> \"IMG_1166\"<\/a> \"IMG_1178\"<\/a>April 30th was Dia de los Ninos! \u00a0143 people came to this Mexican celebration of children. We had fun and games, balloon animals, food, and the performer Chayag (Alex Llumiquinga).<\/div>\n

Food For Fines April 10-16<\/h1>\n

We celebrated National Library Week by accepting Food for library fines<\/strong>. \u00a0All food was\u00a0donated\u00a0to local food banks. \u00a0Sandy Library collected 681.6 pounds of food for the Sandy Community Action Center, and Hoodland collected 236 food items for Neighborhood Missions food closet.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Library Advisory Board<\/strong>
