{"id":629,"date":"2018-02-21T01:10:50","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T01:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/planning\/?p=629"},"modified":"2018-02-21T01:10:50","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T01:10:50","slug":"january-planning-and-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/planning\/2018\/02\/21\/january-planning-and-building\/","title":{"rendered":"January &#8211; Planning and Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Planning issues:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Sandyplace Apartments &#8211; house demolitions<\/u>:\u00a0 Two homes were demolished in January at this site as part of the run up to construction of this new 138 unit complex.\u00a0 The department is very close to issuing both the grading &amp; erosion control permit and the site utilities permit.<\/p>\n<p><u>U.S. Metals Works\/Student Transportation of America<\/u>:\u00a0 Planning is mid-process on a parking lot design review for the USMW site so that Student Transportation of America can properly park their buses there.\u00a0 This application also includes the construction of four more buildings on site.\u00a0 The application has been submitted and fees have been paid \u2013 the department is performing a completeness check on the application, and will process the review after that is complete.\u00a0 Then it will go to the Planning Commission for approval.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internal projects: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Department rebranding and expansion<\/u>: \u00a0The Planning &amp; Building Department has changed its name to Development Services.\u00a0 This name is a little more all-encompassing of the department\u2019s function, and avoids the confusion between Community Services and \u201cCommunity Development\u201d, which is a commonly-used name for planning departments in other cities and counties.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the Economic Development department is now a part of Development Services.\u00a0 Dave and Angie (our webmaster\/photography intern) will now report directly to the Development Services Director.\u00a0 This will give Development Services three internal divisions: Planning, Building and Economic Development.<\/p>\n<p><u>Website updates<\/u>:\u00a0 The department continues to work on an overhaul to the Development Services website and making information more accessible and easier to find.\u00a0 In the last month, we have completed the following tasks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The municipal code section of the website has been reformatted so that each chapter is an individual .pdf document complete with active internal links, instead of the entire code being stored as one master .pdf. This will make editing the SMC much, much easier in the future.<\/li>\n<li>Individual pages continue to be added to the Planning section as planning functions begin to develop \u2013 this includes adding parks planning information, an updated development review page with more maps, the urban renewal master plan &amp; annual report and more.<\/li>\n<li>We are also eliminating multiple link\/info posting, reorganizing information and trying to make the section more intuitive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Pleasant St. Master Plan\/Downtown Walkability Plan<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pleasant St. Master Plan: Public input surveys are live until the beginning of March (136 received so far).\u00a0 Stakeholder interviews are complete with a couple of exceptions.\u00a0 PSMP Open House is on March 14<sup>th<\/sup> at the Sandy Public Library\u2019s Community Room between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM\u2014Council presence would be greatly appreciated.<\/li>\n<li>Downtown Walkability Plan: Public input surveys are live until the beginning of March (116 received so far). In process of finalizing the analysis criteria; this will be complete by the end of February.\u00a0 Pop up mapping (pre-determined location where interactive maps will be set up and user input encouraged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Fa\u00e7ade Program &amp; Public Infrastructure (current projects)<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sandy City Hall \u2013 Admin: Bids requested (two positive responses so far)<\/li>\n<li>Sandy City Hall \u2013 Stairs: Top landing and concrete rails installed \u2013 project delayed due to sub-zero temperatures.\u00a0 Will resume in March.<\/li>\n<li>Double Dragon: Waiting for city architect input.
