Policing in the Virtual World:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Sandy Police Department is\u00a0officially\u00a0“Virtual”, at least our Grand Jury Testimony is virtual. \u00a0On Friday, December 14, 2012 we held our first “Facetime” \u00a0Virtual Grand Jury. \u00a0It took exactly 6 minutes from\u00a0beginning\u00a0to end. \u00a0No more driving to Oregon City and waiting for 20 to 60 minutes to testify and then driving back to Sandy. \u00a0We just come in, sign on and wait for their call at an appointed time. The entire Grand Jury can see us and we can see everyone and the entire Grand Jury Room. \u00a0It worked beautifully!<\/p>\n

\u00a0Clackamas Town Center Shooting:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sandy PD had a small role in helping with the shooting at the mall. \u00a0Officer Way was nearby at a class, heard the call, and responded to the scene. \u00a0He was tasked with providing\u00a0security\u00a0for the medical staging area, and was there when they brought out victims. \u00a0He did a great job. \u00a0The rest of us that were on duty responded by back filling the county and taking calls from Damascus, Boring, Estacada, and on up to Timberline. \u00a0We lucked out as the call load was low and we were able to manage the workload. \u00a0We did call in a few extra officers to help out.<\/p>\n

School Security:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In response to the Sandy Hook\u00a0Elementary\u00a0school\u00a0tragedy, we have been working with Oregon Trail School District in ensuring the safety of the students. \u00a0Officers were assigned extra patrol at the schools (Sandy HS, Sandy\u00a0Elementary, Cedar Ridge MS and Firwood Elementary). \u00a0We have been in close contact with OTSD and have scheduled additional training and exercises for both the OTSD and SPD staff. \u00a0 We have been\u00a0participating\u00a0in exercises, training and planning for the last several years and want to make sure we are as ready as possible while praying the need never arises.<\/p>\n
