{"id":81,"date":"2012-08-20T20:15:27","date_gmt":"2012-08-20T20:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/police\/?p=81"},"modified":"2012-08-20T20:18:00","modified_gmt":"2012-08-20T20:18:00","slug":"council-report-july-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/police\/2012\/08\/20\/council-report-july-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Report &#8211; July 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PATROL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are seeing an uptick in thefts over the last few weeks. \u00a0Most of the crimes appear to be crimes of opportunity, but we have seen a few garden sheds pried open.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Sytsma was running to the aid of another officer who was struggling with a suspect. \u00a0He was unable to see a speed bump in the dark, and fell hard onto his right hand. \u00a0He sustained injuries that required surgery and pinning of fractures. \u00a0He is on light duty and helping out at the front desk. \u00a0He will most likely be on light duty for another few months. \u00a0He is working hard at physical therapy. \u00a0I know he is trying to get back to patrol as quick as humanly possible.<\/p>\n<p>June and July were busy and required everyone to be on duty most of the time. \u00a0That leaves August for summer vacations. \u00a0As a result we are pretty short handed. \u00a0The Sergeants and I have been filling a lot of the shifts so that the patrol staff can get some much needed rest.<\/p>\n<p>The three officers that received their\u00a0commercial\u00a0inspection certification in June stopped and did inspections on eight big rigs in July. \u00a0A group of six more officers will be attending the certification class in\u00a0September\u00a0with the remaining officer going in\u00a0December. I am hoping, and I\u00a0believe\u00a0seeing, that word will get out\u00a0among\u00a0the truckers to slow down, and have all of their equipment in good condition when driving through Sandy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ADMINISTRATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Diane Reed and I attended an Eforce (our records management system) Users Conference in Park City Utah. \u00a0It was\u00a0informative\u00a0and we came away as &#8220;Certified Administrators&#8221; of the program. \u00a0Future training will be done regional, so we are hoping we won&#8217;t have to travel so far in the future.<\/p>\n<p>I have been working with our City Attorney on seized asset protocols and have been able to make some headway. \u00a0The next step is an MOU with the County, as the law requires they be provided with a percentage of anything we receive.<\/p>\n<p>We have two more required items to finish before we submit for the\u00a0accreditation\u00a0inspection. \u00a0Those items will be completed and the inspection\u00a0requested\u00a0NLT 08\/31\/12. \u00a0I will keep you posted as we progress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>INVESTIGATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Detective Bickle completed two more background checks on two potential reserve hires. One as a\u00a0familiar\u00a0last name (Skelton). \u00a0He also competed a background check on Mr. Evan Pestalozzi, who will be coming on as an intern the second week in September.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Bickle currently has an open case load of seven cases, several of which are complicated and will take some time. \u00a0He closed four cases in July that including a case of a newborn child\u00a0testing\u00a0positive for methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PATROL We are seeing an uptick in thefts over the last few weeks. \u00a0Most of the crimes appear to be crimes of opportunity, but we have seen a few garden sheds pried open.
