September 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Patrol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an effort to ensure we are keeping up to date on how we deal with the mentally ill, we sent Officers Craven and Olmos to a 40 hours Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). \u00a0 The training is intense and provides officers with skills needed to deal with those in mental health crisis. \u00a0Most of the officers currently on staff have had the training, and we are going to make sure that everyone is certified within the next two to three years. \u00a0Once we get current staff trained, we will make sure new hires get the training as soon as possible after hire. \u00a0We will also make sure we have continuing education on this important topic.<\/p>\n<p>Another three officers have received their Level 2 ODOT\u00a0Commercial\u00a0Vehicle Inspection Certification this month. \u00a0They recently worked a\u00a0detail\u00a0at the\u00a0Welch&#8217;s\u00a0Weigh Station and conducted inspections on 19 vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Resource Officer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Officer Way\u00a0counseled\u00a0approximately\u00a023 people (teachers, students and parents) regarding various issues. \u00a0He also conducted 114 background checks for the school district.<\/p>\n<p>He assisted in two investigations with other agencies and filed several other reports including a Possession of Marijuana by a Cedar Ridge Student.<\/p>\n<p>We had had an opportunity to test the evacuation process at the new high school as a result of smoke in a classroom.\u00a0 Apparently, while drying materials in a dehumidifier, the plastic rack the material was placed upon began to melt due to excessive heat.\u00a0 The smoke from the rack set off the fire alarm.\u00a0 It was later discovered the temperature control had been turned to its highest setting.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Way also responded with the fire department to Firwood Elementary School regarding a brush fire near the school.\u00a0 Upon arrival, it was discovered a large shrub near the covered play area had been set on fire.\u00a0 During the investigation a student came forward and admitted to unintentionally starting the fire.\u00a0 The 7-year-old second grader stated he was showing a classmate how he could light matches and threw one into the shrub.\u00a0 The incident was documented and forwarded to the Sandy Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, he continues to work with parents regarding concerns over the skate park.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Code Enforcement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Officer Moody remains busy. \u00a0He cleared over 20 cases this month and took in another 26. \u00a0Most of the issues concern\u00a0nuisance\u00a0homes, trash and the like. \u00a0He wrote several tickets and issued several warnings. \u00a0He continues to put in a lot of hours as a Reserve Officer on the weekends.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patrol In an effort to ensure we are keeping up to date on how we deal with the mentally ill, we sent Officers Craven and Olmos to a 40 hours Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). \u00a0 The training is intense and &hellip;
