{"id":240,"date":"2015-07-10T22:56:51","date_gmt":"2015-07-10T22:56:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/publicworks\/?p=240"},"modified":"2015-07-10T23:51:53","modified_gmt":"2015-07-10T23:51:53","slug":"monthly-report-public-works-department-may-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.cityofsandy.com\/publicworks\/2015\/07\/10\/monthly-report-public-works-department-may-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Monthly Report Public Works Department &#8211; May, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WATER<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; A total of 20,253,584 gallons of water were produced, 2,078,000 gallons from\u00a0Alder Creek treatment plant, 9,979<em>,<\/em>000\u00a0gallons from\u00a0Brownell Springs and 8,195,584\u00a0gallons purchased from City of Portland. 3.52\u00a0inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during May.\u00a0The Revenue Ave. reservoir was drained as part of the 1-year warranty inspection for the PWB Intertie project. The warranty inspection revealed a few issues, mostly related to painting and landscaping at the pump stations. There were also some minor cosmetic concrete repairs required on the interior of the reservoir and as a result we had to keep it drained for about two weeks. A lighting strike on the 19th affected several items at the treatment plant and Springs but they were repaired or replaced quickly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WASTEWATER &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>A total of 35<em>,<\/em>860,000 gallons of sewage were treated and used for irrigation. Minimum flow was 0.9\u00a0MGD on the 22nd<em>\u00a0<\/em>. Maximum flow was 1.45\u00a0MGD on the 1st.\u00a0(rainfall was 0.0 inches on April 30th\u00a0and 0.2 inches on May\u00a01st). A total of 1.37\u00a0inches\u00a0of rainfall was recorded during May.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #373737\">\u00a0BOD concentration was 6.1 mg\/l; BOD loading was 60 lbs; permit allows 10\u00a0mg\/l and 125\u00a0lbs.; SS concentration was 10.2\u00a0mg\/l; SS loading was 101 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg\/l and 125 lbs. \u00a0 No\u00a0sludge was processed, hauled or spread during the month. Repairs to Clarifier No. 2 were completed. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 308\u00a0hours with no significant problems. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>STREETS<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>&#8211;\u00a0The street sweeping contractor spent 58\u00a0hours sweeping streets and collected more than 12\u00a0tons (17 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 154 lane miles<em>. <\/em>Approximately<em>\u00a0<\/em>26,000 lineal feet of cracks were sealed on various City streets<em>.\u00a0<\/em>PW staff finished installing the wayfinding signs in May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: inherit\"><strong>PARKS \/ OTHER &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The drier weather in May allowed Parks staff to keep up with the mowing however the warmer weather<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>made the grass grow that much faster. PW staff installed water meters on the splash pad, irrigation service and rental house at Bornstedt Park. This will allow us to keep track of water usage for each feature and reduce monthly sewer bills which had been based on a single meter. The one year warranty inspection for Bornstedt Park was performed. The contractor connected the irrigation for the community garden to the on-site well which will further reduce utility bills. It was supposed to have been done as part of the project but was not discovered until the garden was prepared. The contractor\u00a0will replace several trees and shrubs that are not thriving later in the Fall.
