Summer Reading runs through August 31st!

Dragon Theater Puppets presents Cryptozoology – 38 kids and 20 adults in Meinig Park 
– 9 kids and 3 adults at Hoodland

Busy Bugs – 40 kids and 22 adults attended in Meinig park

Mountain Festival Kids Parade – Monica Smith and volunteers helped 100 kids make bookmarks.

Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS)
DHS is back in the Library!  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Computer Users
Sandy 429 sessions
Hoodland 80 sessions

Mobile Printing Send prints from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.  Once the print job is sent, it will sit in a queue waiting to be released to print.  Call the library on the same day to have staff release the print job. Pick up your prints in person or through Curbside Service.  
Sandy – 31 users printed 70 jobs (226 pages)
Hoodland -25 users printed 103 jobs (267 pages)

New Library Cards  Sandy patrons created 13 ecards (119 cards total) Hoodland (23 cards total).

Checkouts 
Sandy – 2516 sessions. Averages 84 sessions/day (down from 89 last month) 10,183 items
Hoodland – 637 sessions.  Averages 25 sessions/day (up from 24 last month) 2238 items

We checked out a total of 12,421 items(up from last month’s 12,370)through curbside pickup and browsing.

Kids Programs
Special
Harry Potter’s Birthday -150 people attended. We made light up wands, quiddich balls, and sorted people into houses.

Ongoing
Vista Apartments – 55 kids attended Summer Reading Programs presented by Wy’East Artisans Guild, LEGO Guy, Clackamas County (Composting with Worms), and Rick Reynolds (Bugs!)

Sandy After School Kids’ Club – 10 kids and 7 adults made LEGO creations at LEGO Club and created sun prints 

Take & Make – 135 kids (115 Sandy, 20 Hoodland) picked up supplies for weaving.  Our Take & Make kits for kids are  available on the 15th with an additional video on Facebook in case you can’t make it to the Make & Take program!

Reading Tutoring – 8 one hour sessions of reading tutoring (2 tutors and 2 students each).

Read to a Dog – 1 kid read to a dog in person in the library

Storytimes
Storytime videos were posted in our Facebook Group: Sandy and Hoodland Libraries – Storytime Parents Group.  Use numbers were recorded after 1 week. All Storytimes were presented by librarian Monica Smith – unless otherwise noted.

Teen Programs
Ongoing
Take and Make – 50 teens (43 Sandy, 7 Hoodland) picked up supplies to make macrame wall art.   Teen Take & Makes are available starting on the 1st of the month.

Anime Club – 6 teens attended to watch anime and connect with each other.

White Board (Passive) – Question: What brings you into the library today?  57 people participated.

Adult Programs
Special
Planning a Fall and Winter Vegetable Garden – presented by Master Gardener Dennis Brown 10 people attended in person, 5 through zoom.

Lotus Lantern Craft Workshop – in partnership with the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project.  22 people attended.

Ongoing
Take & Make – 60 people  (50 Sandy, 10 Hoodland) picked up supplies to make Modge Podge Fabric Bowls.  Adult Take & Makes are available starting on the 15th of the month.

American Red Cross Blood Drive – 28 people attended, 22 units of blood collected

Writing Group  – 12 people attended our twice monthly writing group led by volunteer Gary Dohrer.  Gary is a retired English professor with over 30 years of experience teaching writing and literature.

Computer Classes: Computer Basics – 2 people, Internet Basics – 2 people

Book Clubs
Women’s Book Club – 6 people discussed Piranesi  by Susanna Clarke
Men’s Book Club – 7 people discussed Hillbilly Elegy by J D Vance
Hoodland Book Club – 12 people discussed Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson

Exhibits
Come see the linoleum block prints of Chelsey Hawkey at Sandy Library before August 29th.

Training
Five staff were able to attend a one day conference at Timberline Lodge. Greg Fox, Kimberly Gomez-Ruelas, Katie Murphy, Thea Ellen, and Molly Espenel.
