FROM TERRE GIFT, BUILDING OFFICIAL – Residential permits increased significantly in September, and the number of plans issued also increased. Hayden Homes and Vista Homes continued to lead as the busiest residential contractors. Stonecreek Development is still active in both Deer Pointe and Sandy Bluff Subdivisions as they build the last of their lots. Ed Wagoner is nearing completion of his 4 new townhomes at Nettie Connett and Balken Ave. Jerry Gravell has completed excavation and started foundations for 4 new townhomes. Cashatt Construction has started their second home at 36708 Ichabod. In addition to the new construction, there are nearly a dozen residential remodels currently underway.
Commercial activities remained very active in September. Starbucks is nearing completion with their conversion of the former Jack-in-the-Box building and they expect to be have their grand opening in the middle of October. Sandy High School has obtained temporary occupancy of their new IT and printing departments located in the old maintenance building near athletic complex. La Milpa Mexican Foods Inc., has completed the relocation of their business operations into the large industrial building at 36350 Industrial Way. And the SAH Building has completed their façade improvements, which has generated numerous positive comments and also attracted new tenants.
Lastly, Terrence Gift, the Building Official, and John Bennett, the on-call inspector, attended three Code Training classes in September mandated by Oregon Building Codes Division. The Building, Energy, Mechanical, Plumbing and Residential codes have all been updated effective this fall. The majority of the changes were insignificant and will have little noticeable effect on the building contractors. The City of Sandy Building Department has begun updating the handouts to reflect the new code editions.
3) URBAN RENEWAL – The contractor Full Throttle Construction has completed this year’s facade enhancement projects (Sah Building and Wheatland Building). Staff is very pleased with the way the projects came out. We also received a nice letter from Barbara and Matthew Sah.
