On June 6th we had our second negotiations meeting between the City and the Sandy Police Officer’s Association. Things are moving along well and we should have a new contract soon. There will be some delay because of vacations.
On June 7, SPD hosted the Cascadia Subduction Zone exercise. Department heads, elected officials, school officials and every SPD employee where in attendance. We left the table top exercise with a good appreciate for how important self preparedness is and an action plan to help get the rest of our community prepared.
That afternoon, several SPD staff participated with the City of Estacada in a table top similar to ours.
Then to end the week SPD staff participated with the Oregon Trail School District with their tabletop exercise.
We conducted interviews for Diane Reed replacement on June 14th, hiring Nick Weltch. He starts in July so they will have a little over a month to work together before Diane departs.
On June 17th, Chief Yamashita conducted a self defense class for young women at the Community Center.
Oregon Trail School District staff and Chief Yamashita were asked to speak at a school board administrators conference about the steps we’ve taken to secure our schools. This spurred other speaking engagements for the group including the Oregon Emergency Managers Conference in October.
On June 27th, we had our accreditation renewal inspection and passed. We are accredited for another three years.
