WATER

A total of 51,208,000 gallons of water were produced, 38,442,000 at Alder Creek Treatment Plant and 12,766,000 at Brownell Springs. Peak day production was 2.20 MGD on the 17th. A total of 0.02 inches of rainfall was recorded at the treatment plant site during the month of August.Design work continued on the Portland Water Bureau Intertie Project. The access drive at Sandercock reservoir and the entrance drive and parking area at the Water Treatment Plant were slurry sealed in August.

 SEWER

A total of 26,270,000 gallons of wastewater were treated. Minimum flow was 0.75 MGD on the 4th; maximum day flow was 0.92 MGD on the 19th. No rainfall was recorded at the treatment plant site during the month.  We were in compliance with our waste discharge permit for the month of August. BOD concentration was 6.3 mg/l, permit allows 20 mg/l; BOD loading was 54 lbs., permit allows 83 lbs.; SS concentration was 4.3 mg/l, permit allows 20 mg/l; SS loading was 48 lbs., permit allows 83 lbs. Effluent BOD and SS permit limits do not apply when treated wastewater is used for irrigation, these numbers are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. One of the clarifiers was drained for inspection and cleaning.  857,120 gallons of sludge were processed during the month reduced to 42.4 dry tons of ‘cake’ which was hauled and spread on local, DEQ-approved pasture sites. Approximately 12,000 SF of the access drives and parking/maneuvering areas at the treatment plant site were slurry sealed. This is about 1/3 of the total plant site, we plan on doing a similar amount in the next two years until the entire site has been resurfaced.   The pumps at Marcy St., Meinig Ave. Sleep Hollow and Northside lift stations ran a total of 203 hours with no significant problems.

 STREETS

A total of 6 tons of asphalt were used patching potholes and utility trenches. The street sweeping contractor spent 44 hours sweeping streets, collected 18 tons (17 cu. yds.) of debris, and covered 125 lane miles. August was a busy month for the street maintenance program. The paving contractor placed asphalt overlays on 10 of the 12 streets on their schedule, (Shalimar and Jonsrud  will be completed in September). The slurry seal contractor completed all their work in August – resurfacing 12 streets. The voluntary sidewalk repair program met a merciful end we had about 16 properties participate.

PARKS – OTHER

There was some vandalism to electrical fixtures in Meinig Park and at the main stage over a single night in August. The total damage was approximately $1,600.   A leaking water line along the path on the north side of the creek was replaced in time for the final concert. The dry weather has affected the turf grass in some of the parks despite a robust irrigation schedule. The grass in Sandy Bluff Park is especially affected. It is irrigated with water from the pond on the south side of the park. The water level in the pond has gotten so low that is is difficult to keep up with the irrigation demand for the grass.
