Monthly Report, Public Works Department – April, 2015

WATER – A total of 27,240,000 gallons of water were delivered, 2,121,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant, 9,980,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 15,139,000 gallons purchased from City of Portland. 5.34 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during April. City staff disinfected, refilled and returned to service Vista Loop No. 1 reservoir. This will allow us to drain and inspect the Revenue Ave. and Vista Loop No. 2 reservoirs.

WASTEWATER – A total of 44,430,000 gallons of sewage were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek and the land application site. Minimum flow was 1.04 MGD on the 22nd . Maximum flow was 2.3 MGD on the 1st. (rainfall was 0.25 inches on March 31st and 0.25 inches on April 1st). A total of 4.6 inches of rainfall was recorded during April.  BOD concentration was 6.2 mg/l; BOD loading was 68 lbs; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 12.8 mg/l; SS loading was 140 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.  Due to the dry spring weather land application of treated wastewater began on April 17th. This is about two weeks earlier than the start date in our permit. No sludge was processed, hauled or spread during the month. One of the clarifiers was drained for repairs to the sweep arms. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 389 hours with no significant problems.  

STREETS – The street sweeping contractor spent 48 hours sweeping streets and collected more than 15 tons (24 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 151 lane miles. PW staff installed the first of the wayfinding signs in April.

PARKS / OTHER – Parks staff began work on rehabilitating the turf in the east one-half of the Sandy Bluff dog park.
