WATER – A total of 30,078,000 gallons of water were treated and delivered during the month. 11,264,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant, 5,184,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 13,630,000 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Maximum day production was 1.24 MG on April 7th. 9.06 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month. CH2M’s recent process optimization work resulted in the reduction of the primary coagulant and filter aid used during April while improving finished water quality. The results from the most recent round of Disinfection By-Product (DBP) treatment options testing showed promising results using ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate (Vitamin C) to reduce chlorine residual and DBPS. Quality Tank completed welding the new above-ground connections at Sandercock reservoir.

WASTEWATER – A total of 61,460,000 gallons of sewage were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 1.22 MGD on the 3rd. Maximum flow was 1.28 MGD on the 26th. Rainfall was 0.50 inches on the 25th and 1.0 inches on the 26th. A total of 6.05 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during April. BOD concentration was 8.0 mg/l; BOD loading was 149 lbs; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 10.0 mg/l; SS loading was 202 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.  We exceeded the monthly average for lbs of suspended solids and BOD discharged. No sludge was processed, hauled or spread during the month. The domestic well pump failed and was replaced. The best information we have indicates that this pump had been in service since 1971. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 456 hours with no significant problems.

STREETS & STORM – The street sweeping contractor spent 58 hours sweeping streets and collected more than 20 tons (15 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 185 lane miles. PW staff excavated a large failed section of pavement on Wolf Dr. on the 27th and a contractor repaved it on the 28th. This area was damaged by traffic and freeze-thaw action during the cold weather in December and January.

PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS –  PB&G staff tried to keep up with spring mowing when the weather cooperated. PB&G staff began opening the restrooms in Meinig Park during the month, they are closed in the evenings with a timer.
