WATER – A total of 30,423,000 gallons of water were treated and delivered during the month. 9,553,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant, 6,320,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 14,550,000 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Maximum day production was 1.57 MG on March 3rd.  4.37 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during March. During March we blended water from Alder Creek and Brownell Springs at a 1:1 ratio with water from City of Portland inside the Revenue Ave. reservoir for five consecutive nights. After sampling for Disinfection By-Products we found the levels dropped to about half of what they had been and well under the maximum contaminant level. We will be working on automating this process and see if we experience similar results in the second and third quarters this year.

WASTEWATER – A total of 46,400,000 gallons of sewage were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 1.07 MGD on the 15th. Maximum flow was 2.55 MGD on the 24th. Rainfall was 0.65 inches on the 23rd and 0.26 inches on the 24th. A total of 4.16 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during march. BOD concentration was 6.0 mg/l; BOD loading was 60 lbs; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 6.0 mg/l; SS loading was 92 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs. 8.78 wet tons of sludge were processed and hauled to landfill during the month. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 692 hours with no significant issues. Staff from Murraysmith visited the treatment plant over two days in March to review plant performance and operations as part of the Facilities Plan process. Murraysmith also visited and reviewed operations at the land application site and Everfresh Fruit on Kelso Rd.

STREETS & STORM –  On dry days during March PW staff mowed roadside ditches and stormwater swales to get a jump on vegetation control. A school zone traffic analysis was performed by the City’s traffic engineer in March and as a result we will be installing School Speed Zone signs on Bluff for Cedar Ridge middle school. Survey and preliminary design work began for a project to resurface Bluff Rd. between Hwy 26 and Hood St. this summer.

PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS – PB&G staff focused on Meinig Park to get it ready for the Easter Egg Hunt and on other parks to get them ready for Spring Break during March.  The Parks Seasonal Worker position was filled with the same person we had last summer so they were able to jump right in a get things ready for Spring Break. We were also able to utilize the new 1/2 time position shared with Community Services for this work.
