HR Report – April 2023

Police Patrol Interviews will take place next month on May 10th.

Community center is hiring more building monitors to replace future vacancy due to some employees leaving for college.

Our seasonal employee for parks and recreation started the end of this month.

HR Report – February 2023

Development Services had a Senior Planner turn in a resignation and she will be leaving on March 9th.

Police will be entering payroll through the on-line system beginning in February for the first time. We will be verifying the transfer over the next couple of months to ensure accuracy.

The Benefit and Comp survey was completed and is being evaluated.

I am in the process of developing a City Wide Training program for each employee that includes everything but not limited to: cyber security, ethics, DEI, communication, management development, and job specific/related.

HR Report – January 2023

The Police Union contract was ratified and all changes were made in time for the January payroll.

Development Services had a Permit Technician resignation who will be leaving the first of February. Recruitment started immediately.

Continued clean up and development of transitioning Police Payroll away from paper timesheets to on-line with the goal of the final transfer during the month of April 2023 payroll.

The Benefit and Comp survey is almost complete with the report coming from our consultant the middle of next month.


December 2022

Parks and Recreation welcomed another Building Monitor that will start in January 2023.

Beginning the development of a City Wide training program for all employees related to all things HR.






HR Manager Report – October

Open Enrollment was complete for the City of Sandy Staff.

Recruitment for Parks & Recreation wrapped up this month with two offers being extended and accepted. Caroleana Smallwood is our new Client Services Coordinator and Amy Lytle is our new Recreation Coordinator.

Work has started on the Salary & Benefit Compensation Review for General Services.

Educational training began for all management staff on the new Oregon Paid Leave Program that begins in 2023. All City employees along with the City will begin contributions into the Oregon mandated program beginning in January of 2023.





HR Manager Report – September

Parks & Recreation went out for Recruitment for the Client Services Coordinator position and interviews will take place in October. They also welcomed Brandon Shaffer into the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Worker I this month. The position of Recreation Coordinator has been put on hold.

Work begin on Open Enrollment along with the future benefit and compensation survey for the City. Union Negotiations are still in process.


HR Report

Parks & Recreation will interview for their Recreation Coordinator position during the second week of September. The Parks and Facilities Maintenance Worker I position closed and interviews took place the 1st week of September. The hope is to have a new employee starting by early October. They also filled their final opening for Building Monitor.

The library successfully filled three on-call Library Clerks that all will start in September. The Library is now fully staffed.

Very excited to welcome our new new Assistant Public Works Director AJ Thorne who starts 9/1/2022.

The Safety Committee will be conducting their first Safety Inspections in September. This will be the first ones since COVID.

Our on-call Building Inspector received another position and his last day was August 4th. That position will not be refilled at this time.

HR Report July 2022

Parks & Recreation is still currently recruiting for their Recreation Coordinator and hope to conduct another set of interviews in September. They have recently posted a full-time Parks and Facilities Maintenance Worker I. They have hired one Building Monitor and are still recruiting for one more.

The library is looking to fill two on-call Library Clerks and will be conducted interviews in late August early September.

Union negotiations are still underway.

With help from Greg Brewster, the City has developed a Heat and Air Quality index website to keep managers and employees who work outside in the elements informed about severe weather conditions related to heat and air quality. This website provides education information for signs, symptoms and treatment options of heat related illnesses. It allows the staff to plan their workday by giving hour by hour weather projections and alerts when the heat index changes levels. Recruitment is wrapping up on the Assistant Public Works Director/Project Manager and hope to have a hiring decision in early August and a start date in September.

HR Report – June 2022

The last seasonal employee was hired for IT/SandyNet in June. They will look to re-open their full time position later this fall.

Parks & Recreation began recruitment for the new Recreation Coordinator and they continue to look to fill their Building Monitors. Once those positions are filled, they will be fully staffed.

The library conducted interviews for two Library Shelvers and both new employees will start in early July.

Joe Preston retired on June 30th after 26 years of service. Tiana Rundell was selected as his replacement with an updated job description and title (Parks Facilities Manager) to reflect the responsibility and duty changes taking place in that position. Recruitment for Tiana’s replacement will start soon.

COVID continues to be part of our daily work environment as we work around quarantines and isolations.

HR Manager Report – May 2022

Recruitment and interviews took place for Seasonal Position in Parks, Public Works and SandyNet. All departments were successful in filling their positions. This is exciting as we have not been able to fill these positions for two years. We did lower the age limit and made some adjustments to the Job Description which allowed for a wider pool of candidates.

The hire for the Full Time Telecom Utility Worker fell through and it was decided to bring on an additional seasonal worker instead of opening recruitment again due to the lack of applicants at this time.

Recruitment and interviews took place for the position of Building Monitor at the Community/Senior Center.

The Parks/Facilities Manager recruitment started. Joe Preston retires the end of June.

Peter Wantuck started as our new System Administrator. Scott Jones who was in that position previously took a new position in the City as a Patrol Officer.

The library received numerous applications for their two shelver positions. Interviews will happen towards the end of June.

Safety Committee is getting a revamp after the pause during COVID. Tiana Rundell was selected as the new Chair.

Union negotiations have begun, but nothing to report at this time.

No separations occurred in April.
