HR Report – February 2020

In February the City had three new hires. Two are drivers in the Transit department, and one is a Planner in the Development Services Department.

Staff is working on many projects currently, including the Pay Equity and Compensation Study, as well as a comprehensive review and update to the City’s personnel policies.

HR Report – January 2020

In December the City had nine new hires, and one separations. Five are referees in the Recreation department, three drivers in the Transit department, and one in Administration.

Staff will being work on reviewing the Compensation Study and looking at ways to implement any needed changes. Council will be involved in the process as we continue to move forward.

HR Report – December 2019

In December the City had 21 new hires, and one separations. This was all related to the transition of the Transit drivers from their contracted positions to temporary City employees.

The Pay Equity Study has been completed, and LGPI is working away on finalizing our Compensation Study. We will sit down to review the first draft in mid January, and hope to have a final report around the end of January.

In September the City had zero new hires, and zero separations. A quiet month!

Local Government Personnel Institute (LGPI) is working away on completing the first phase of our project, which includes the Pay Equity Analysis. All position analysis forms have been submitted. More information once the analysis is complete.

HR Report – August 2019

In August the City had two new hires, and zero separations. The new hires include a building monitor in the Community Services Department, and an intern in the Planning Department.

HR Report – July 2019

In July the City had one new hires, and three separations. The new hire is a limited duration hire to assist in the Transit Department while an employee is out on leave. The separations were from the Finance, Library, and Community Services departments.

The city entered into a professional services agreement with Local Government Personnel Institute (LGPI) in June to conduct a Pay Equity Analysis and Compensation Study. The first phase, the pay equity analysis, will begin in August and may take as long as sixteen weeks. Updated on the status of the extensive project will be provided as they become available.

HR Report – April 2019

Contract negotiations continue with the Sandy Police Association. To date, negotiations have been very respectful, and staff has every indication that the progress we have seen will continue into future meetings.

In March the City had zero new hires, and seven separations. All seven separations occurred in the Community Services Department: six aquatic center employees and one building monitor.

We will see another large of month for separations in May, as the city winds-down operations of the aquatic center for a closure on May 31st.

HR Report – March 2019

Contract negotiations continue with the Sandy Police Association. To date, negotiations have been very respectful, and staff has every indication that the progress we have seen will continue into future meetings.

In March the City had four new hires, and three separations. The four newly hired employees are working in the Library, Community Services, and Parks departments, in varying on-call or seasonal capacities. The separated employees included two on-call employees, and on long term employee. Joe Knapp, from our IT and SandyNet departments, has moved on to do other rewarding work. Joe has been a fixture in our city for over a decade and will be greatly missed. Greg Brewster has stepped in as Interim IT/SandyNet Director.

Interviews were conducted for the Patrol Officer. The applicant pool was very large, and staff is happy to report that a very qualified candidate in available for hire. Depending on the outcome of future Council meetings, an offer could be extended in the coming weeks.





HR Report – February 2019

Contract negotiations with the Sandy Police Association began this month. The City is looking forward to successful negotiation sessions with the SPA, resulting in another mutually agreeable contract.

In February the City had two new hires, and one separation. The two newly hired employees are working in the Library and the Police Department. The separated employee was working in the Community Services Department.

HR staff, with the help of Sergeant Lundry, has begun reviewing applications for a new Patrol Officer.

HR Report – January 2019

Another busy month for Human Resources! Overall, nine employees were brought on board. This included our new City Manager, Jordan Wheeler. The other eight employees are all referees, who will assist in the Recreation Department for youth basketball.

The department is actively working on updating internal policies and procedures, as well as reviewing the current personnel policies for a comprehensive update. This will be a more involved process, which will include the benefits committee, and brought before Council for final approval.

The Police Department is recruiting for an officer to fill the position that was opened when an employee left in November. Interviews were conducted for the Police Records Specialist, a position that has been open since March 2018.

HR staff members are also preparing personnel information for the upcoming budget process. In the coming months, staff will also begin working on contract negotiations with the Sandy Police Association.
