Internal Network Upgrades
We have made several enhancements to the City’s internal network including the installation of a new Storage Area Network enhancing the capacity and performance of our file systems and servers. We have also installed a new server to add additional redundancy to our virtualized server environment.
Upcoming improvements that are in progress include a new phone system upgrade to our back end server that runs the phones as well as the distribution of 30 new desktop computers to various departments throughout the City.
Hoodland Library
IT Staff worked with Library staff to get the new Hoodland Library location connected to the City’s network with fiber. The CBX fiber infrastructure that was deployed by Clackamas County made this possibly at a very low cost. Patrons of the Hoodland Library can enjoy the same technology amenities as the Sandy Library users with ultra-high speed internet connectivity.
Fiber to the Home
The SandyNet Fiber project was featured in Community Broadband Network podcast. You can listen in here http://muninetworks.org/content/benefits-lessons-sandynet-community-broadband-bits-episode-167
Asphalt and concrete restoration are all that remains from a construction perspective. We have been having some difficulty getting contractors to finish up this restoration work. I am continuing to work with them on getting everything resolved. SandyNet staff is working hard to get everyone installed and running on the fiber system.
Service activations are becoming a little more difficult to schedule as we are having difficulty getting in touch with some of the residents who requested a service drop. We are working on some new strategies to reach out to these residents to ensure we get everyone connected to the system that would like a connection.
