Monthly Report – Public Works – December, 2012

WATER – A total of 26,197,100 gallons of water were produced, 13,274,000 at Alder Creek Treatment Plant and 12,923,100 at Brownell Springs. Peak day water production was 1.0 MG on the 31st. A total of 12.14 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during December. Bids for the Portland Water Bureau Intertie Project were opened on the 18th.  We received 8 bids ranging between $8.5M and $10.1M. The low bid was $8,568,096 from Rotschy, Inc. of Vancouver, WA.

SEWER – A total of 59,920,000 gallons of wastewater were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 1.14 MGD on the 31st. Maximum day flow was 2.97 MGD on the 4th. 8.37 inches of rainfall was recorded at the treatment plant site during the month. BOD concentration was 10.8 mg/l; BOD loading was 218 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 6.36  mg/l; SS loading was 102.4 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.  We began discharging to Tickle Creek on November 16th. Since we only discharged to the stream for half the month and because the peak flow was more than 2.5 times the design flow we were able to remain in compliance with our discharge permit. No sludge  was processed or hauled during the month due.The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southeast and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 1066 hours with no significant problems.  City staff cleaned approximately 25,000 feet of 6″, 8″ and 10″ sewer line south of US 26 and east of Meinig Ave. in December.

STREETS – The street sweeping contractor spent 50 hours sweeping streets and collected 33 tons (50 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 204 lane miles.
