Monthly Report December, 2016 – Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 34,780,950 gallons of water were treated and delivered, 8,479,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant, 13,660,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 12,641,950 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Maximum day production was 1.6 MG on December 18th. 10.6 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during the month. December was a bad month for water leaks. A 6″ water main in Pioneer Blvd. broke on the 2nd; a 1″ service line on Hwy 26 east of Sandy broke on December 19th; a 6″ water main on Ten Eyck broke on the 21st and another service line break occurred later that same day.

WASTEWATER – A total of 71,320,000 gallons of sewage were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 1.4 MGD on the 25th. Maximum flow was 4.0 MGD on the 11th. Rainfall was 0.5 inches on the 10th and 0.6 inches on the 11th. A total of 6.85 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during December.  BOD concentration was 6 mg/l; BOD loading was 96 lbs; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 4.0 mg/l; SS loading was 71 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.  No sludge was processed, hauled or spread during December. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 800 hours with no significant problems.

STREETS & STORM – The street sweeping contractor spent 103 hours sweeping streets and collected more than 68 tons (96 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 458 lane miles. PW staff was busy during the week of the 12th deicing and sanding streets.

PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS –  PB&G staff was kept busy clearing snow off sidewalks and parking lots at City buildings and parks.
