Monthly Report Public Works Department – December, 2013

WATER – A total of 30,184,600 gallons of water were produced, 12,939,000 at Alder Creek Treatment Plant and 8,031,000 at Brownell Springs. Peak day water production was 1.63 MG on the 4th. A total of 5.74 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during December. The interior of the reservoir was completed and the pipe connections and fixed equipment were installed. On the other water system project the replacement building at Brownell Springs was roughed in and work began at the treatment plant site.

SEWER – A total of 44,580,000 gallons of wastewater were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 0.84 MGD on the 19th. Maximum day flow was 4.56 MGD on the 1st. Rainfall was 0.46″ on November 30th and 2.2″ on the 1st. 4.79 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during December.  BOD concentration was 6.1 mg/l; BOD loading was 63.6 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 5.0  mg/l; SS loading was 49.3 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs. We were in compliance with our discharge permit for the month of December.   No sludge was processed during the month.  The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 282 hours with no significant problems.

STREETS – The street sweeping contractor spent 50 hours sweeping streets and collected 11 tons (24 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 144 lane miles. Staff spread de-icer on city streets during the ‘inversion’ period over the holidays.

PARKS / OTHER –  Parks staff focused on building maintenance projects and startup and training on the new systems at Bornstedt Park. PW staff continued cleaning catch basins and storm drainage pipes.
