Monthly Report Public Works Department – March 2015

WATER – A total of 27,169,000 gallons of water were delivered, 1,310,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant, 10,220,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 15,639,000 gallons purchased from City of Portland. 8.15 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during March. The one-year warranty inspection of the gas to liquid disinfectant project at the treatment plant and Brownell Springs was completed. A few items were noted and are being corrected.

WASTEWATER – A total of 50,820,000 gallons of sewage were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was 1.02 MGD on the 4th. Maximum flow was 4.42 MGD on the 15th. (rainfall was 2.1 inches on the 14th and 0.4 inches on the 15th). A total of 6.2 inches of rainfall was recorded during March.  BOD concentration was 6.6 mg/l; BOD loading was 82 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 4.3 mg/l; SS loading was 59 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.  We were in compliance with our discharge permit for the month of March. Due to the unusually warm and dry weather we had in March we sent treated wastewater to the nursery for irrigation use between the 5th and the 15th. No sludge was processed, hauled or spread during the month. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southside, Southeast, Southwest and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 337 hours with no significant problems.  

STREETS – The street sweeping contractor spent 48 hours sweeping streets and collected more than 15 tons (24 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 151 lane miles. Preliminary work began on installing the wayfinding signs.

PARKS / OTHER – Parks staff were busy with mowing between rain showers in the last half of the month. Over Spring Break parks staff resumed opening the restrooms in Meinig Park between 8:00 and 5:00.  Parks staff pruned street trees on Proctor Blvd.
