Monthly Report, April 2013 – Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 27,035,800 gallons of water were produced, 14,070,400 at Alder Creek Treatment Plant and 12,965,400 at Brownell Springs. Peak day water production was 1.07 MG on the 27th. A total of 7.66 inches of rainfall were recorded at the treatment plant site during April.   Work continued on the Intertie project. All piping between the booster pump station site and Kelso Rd. was pressure tested and passed. Trench patching took place on Hudson Rd. and Bluff Rd. and work began within the city limits during the last two weeks of the month.

SEWER – A total of 34,470,000 gallons of wastewater were treated and discharged to Tickle Creek. Minimum flow was .80 MGD on the 28th. Maximum day flow was 2.4 MGD on the 7th. Rainfall on April 6th was 1.25″ with 0.50″ following on the 7th.  3.67 inches of rainfall was recorded at the treatment plant site during the month. BOD concentration was 6.4 mg/l; BOD loading was 54 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs.; SS concentration was 4.6  mg/l; SS loading was 42.7 lbs.; permit allows 10 mg/l and 125 lbs. We were in compliance with our discharge permit for the month of April. No sludge  was processed or hauled during the month. City staff installed an extension on the treated sludge discharge line that will permit plant staff more flexibility when processing and storing sludge. The pumps at Marcy St.; Northside, Southeast and Meinig Ave. lift stations ran a total of 299 hours with no significant problems.

STREETS – The street sweeping contractor spent 41 hours sweeping streets and collected 9 tons (16 cu. yds.) of debris, covering 133 lane miles.

PARKS / OTHER –  Dennis Damici, former Parks Board member and Meinig Park neighbor and Liz Storn installed wetland and upland plants in the detention pond east of the amphitheater over two weekends in April. Volunteers, including the Boring Middle School ‘Eco-Helpers’ spread bark mulch adjacent to the pedestrian paths in the Cascadia Village and Tygart Meadows subdivisions and at the Veteran’s Memorial.
