Monthly Report – August, 2021 Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 57,301,361 gallons of water were treated and delivered during August. 27,839,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant; 8,820,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 20,642,361 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Peak day production was 2.37 MGD on August 18th. 0.58 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month with a peak of 0.15 inches on the 20th. A specialized coupling failed on one of the effluent pumps at the water treatment plant which caused us to purchase more water from Portland until a replacement could be air-freighted in. Veolia is now keeping a spare of this item on site.

WASTEWATER – A total of 27,500,000 gallons of sewage were treated and pumped to Iseli Nursery for irrigation use. Maximum flow was 1.0 MGD on the 13th and 14th (no rain prior to or during these days). Monthly rainfall recorded at the plant was 0.10 inches with a peak of 0.02 inches (no date). 493,000 gallons of sludge were dewatered and processed during August. Monthly Average Effluent BOD was non-detect. Monthly Average Effluent TSS was 2.0 mg/l. Monthly BOD and TSS limits do not apply when effluent is used for irrigation purposes. These figures are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. The plant was in compliance with permit limits during the month of August. Aeration basin #1 was drained and removed from service in preparation for cleaning. Filter fabric on one effluent filter train was replaced with new materials, the fabric on the other filter will be replaced in September.

The contractor for the condition assessment improvements at the treatment plant mobilized on site in August and began demo and prep work on aeration basin #1. Work on the collections system rehabilitation project continued in August in Basin 8. All main line and lateral bursting was completed and all main line liners were installed with only lateral lining and trench restoration remaining in Basin 8.

STREETS – The City’s street sweeping contractor spent 75.25 hours sweeping streets covering 175 travel and lane miles and collecting and disposing of 16.0 cubic yards of debris.

Monthly Report – July, 2021 Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 60,761,135 gallons of water were treated and delivered during July. 34,294,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant; 11,067,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 15,411,135 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Peak day production was 2.26 MGD on July 25th. 0.01 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month with a peak of 0.01 inches on the 14th. A pump at Terra Fern Pump Station was rebuilt and returned to service.

WASTEWATER – A total of 27,820,000 gallons of sewage were treated and pumped to Iseli Nursery for irrigation use. Maximum flow was 0.93 MGD on the 14th (no rain prior to or during the maximum day). Monthly rainfall recorded at the plant was 0.02 inches with a peak of 0.02 inches (no date). 789,560 gallons of sludge were dewatered and processed during July. Monthly Average Effluent BOD was 5.0 mg/l. Monthly Average Effluent TSS was 8.3 mg/l. Monthly BOD and TSS limits do not apply when effluent is used for irrigation purposes. These figures are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. The plant was in compliance with permit limits during the month of July. Aeration basin #1 was drained and removed from service in preparation for cleaning. The UV disinfection system was inspected and replacement parts were ordered.

Work on the collections system rehabilitation project continued in July in Basin 8.

STREETS – The City’s street sweeping contractor spent 79.15 hours sweeping streets covering 166 travel and lane miles and collecting and disposing of 16.75 cubic yards of debris.

PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS –  New landscape maintenance contracts for grounds at city facilities started in July.

Monthly Report – June, 2021 Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 52,560,595 gallons of water were treated and delivered during June. 28,190,280 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant; 8,477,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 14,893,315 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Peak day production was 2.46 MGD on June 27th. Veolia staff were able to keep up with demand during the record high temperatures at the end of the month. 2.13 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month with a peak of 0.47 inches on the 13th.

WASTEWATER – A total of 30,460,000 gallons of sewage were treated and pumped to Iseli Nursery for irrigation use. Maximum flow was 1.55 MGD on the 14th, with 0.48 inches on the 13th and 0.51 inches on the 14th. Monthly rainfall recorded at the plant was 1.80 inches with a peak of 0.51 inches on the 14th. 342,370 gallons of sludge were dewatered and processed during June. Monthly Average Effluent BOD was 7.5 mg/l. Monthly Average Effluent TSS was 7.5 mg/l. Monthly BOD and TSS limits do not apply when effluent is used for irrigation purposes. These figures are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. Total coliform on May 21st was 24.6 MPN (most probable number) exceeding the 23.0 MPN permit standard for class B recycled water. Aeration basin #2 was refilled and returned to service due to high flows in the middle of the month.

Work on the collections system rehabilitation project continued in June in Basin 8.

STREETS – City crews used 9 tons of asphalt patching potholes and utility trenches. The City’s street sweeping contractor spent 63.52 hours sweeping streets covering 16 travel and lane miles and collecting and disposing of 16.5 cubic yards of debris.

Monthly Report – May, 2021 Public Works Department

WATER – A total of 42,532,280 gallons of water were treated and delivered during May. 19,060,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant; 8,086,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 15,386,280 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Peak day production was 1.7 MGD on May 21st. 3.96 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month with a peak of 1.0 inches on the 24th.

WASTEWATER – A total of 32,440,000 gallons of sewage were treated and pumped to Iseli Nursery for irrigation use. Maximum flow was 1.9 MGD on the 25th, with 0.9 inches on the 24th and 0.52 inches on the 25th. Monthly rainfall recorded at the plant was 2.95 inches with a peak of 0.52 inches on the 25th. 700,350 gallons of sludge were dewatered and processed. Monthly Average Effluent BOD was non-detectable. Monthly Average Effluent TSS was 15.0 mg/l. Monthly BOD and TSS limits do not apply when effluent is used for irrigation purposes. These figures are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. Total coliform on May 21st was 24.6 MPN (most probable number) exceeding the 23.0 MPN permit standard for class B recycled water. Aeration basin #2 was drained in anticipation of the renovation work to take place later in the summer

STREETS – City crews began relocating or adjusting utilities at several sites in Proctor Blvd. and US 26 for the ODOT ADA ramp project. Weeds and tall vegetation on City right-of-way were mowed.

PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS – P,B & G staff prepped irrigation systems in City parks in preparation for summer.
