WATER – A total of 47,674,841 gallons of water were treated and delivered during September. 24,912,000 gallons from Alder Creek treatment plant; 7,794,000 gallons from Brownell Springs and 14,968,841 gallons purchased from City of Portland. Peak day production was 2.25 MGD on September 3rd. 4.75 inches of rainfall were recorded at the water treatment plant site during the month with a peak of 1.13 inches on the 17th. A level control valve on one of the filter units failed and was replaced.
WASTEWATER – A total of 23,100,000 gallons of sewage were treated and pumped to Iseli Nursery for irrigation use. Maximum flow was 1.28 MGD on the 18th and 28th (rainfall was 0.96 inches on the 18th and 1.28 inches on the 28th). Monthly rainfall recorded at the plant was 3.69 inches with a peak of 1.03 inches (no date). 784,010 gallons of sludge were dewatered, processed and landfilled during September. Monthly Average Effluent BOD was non-detect. Monthly Average Effluent TSS was 29.0 mg/l. Monthly BOD and TSS limits do not apply when plant effluent is used for irrigation purposes. These figures are shown to demonstrate treatment efficiency. The plant was in compliance with permit limits during the month of September. Veolia’s plant manager, Tom Romesberg retired in September and the lead operator left for another position. The lead operator position has been filled and Veolia’s regional manager, Mike Greene is filling in as the plant manager position until a replacement is found.
The dividing wall in the aeration basin was poured, work continued on pipe and gate installation, One of the clarifiers was rehabilitated but was not returned to service pending review of structural calculations. Main line bursting, lining and manhole rehabilitation work started in Basin 2 in September. A subcontractor started work on lateral lining in Basin 8 in September. City crews performed smoke testing in Basin 5 and portions of basin 6 in September.
STREETS – Public Works crews sealed over 8,600 lineal feet of cracks on seven City street segments during September using rental equipment. The City’s street sweeping contractor spent 100 hours sweeping streets covering 253 travel and lane miles and collecting and disposing of 48.5 cubic yards of debris.
