Kids Programs
Special
Dr. Seuss’ Birthday! Sandy 25 kids and 25 parents, Hoodland 10 kids and 15 parents

Architect’s in Schools – Hoodland held a reception for urban and suburban architectural projects done in Welches Elementary School.  27 kids and 15 parents attended.

Wy’East Artisans Art Club – 59 kids

Saturday Afternoon Kids’ Club:
Pokemon Club – Sandy 10 kids and 5 parents
LEGO Club – Sandy 1 kids and 1 parent, Hoodland 2 kids and 3 parents
Science Saturday – 1 kid and 1 parent came to make slime

Storytime:
Wee Ones – 50 kids and 45 parents
Preschool – 46 kids and 31 parents came to listen to books about superheroes, fish, and outer space.
Hoodland – 7 kids and 7 parents

Teen Programs
Special
Spaghetti Feed & Masquerade Ball – 27 teens attended a fundraiser to benefit The Trevor Project.  Partners on this program included the Gender/Sexuality Youth Alliance at Sandy High School, Sandy Library, AntFarm, and Sandy Community Center.

MakerSpace – 36 teens

Game Factory – 34 teens

T-LAB (Teen Library Advisory Board) – 10 teens came to help the library plan programs for teens.

Adult Programs
Special
Library Coffeehouse – 71 people attended to listen to the music of Bob Soper & Elizabeth Nicholson. Irish harp, North Indian sarod, Greek bouzouki, Middle Eastern and African percussion, as well as many more instruments were used! Thank you to Starbucks for the coffee donation!

 

Oregon Geology – What’s in Your Backyard? – 35 people attended to hear Dr. Torley take us on a geological field trip through Oregon.

 
 

Seed Library
The Sandy Seed Library is now open!  Come browse our great selection of seeds to plant in your garden.  Let a few go to seed, and bring the seeds back for next year.

Master Gardener Series – The Wonderful World of Bees – 20 people attended this program which examined the 400 native species of bees in Oregon.  Thank you to the Master Gardener’s for this great program. Look for more in the series over the next 6 months!

Plants and Popcorn – 6 people attended the film “First Flower” in this documentary series for gardeners.

Paint Nite – 20 people attended to create a painting step-by-step with Melissa Lawrence.

Book Clubs:
Men’s – 10 people discussed One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey
Hoodland – 11 people discussed Between the World & Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Women’s – 9 people discussed Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan

Photography Group – 7 people attended to listen to Mike talk about printing photos.

Outreach
Special
Little Cubs Preschool – 37 kids and 8 parents/teachers (over two mornings) heard a storytime at the library, and heard Monica talk about working in the library.

Oregon Trail Academy – 25 5th graders from OTA visited the library to learn how to do research.

Sandy Grade School – 85 3rd and 4th graders listened to Monica’s book talks and checked out books.

Vista Apartments –39 kids did literacy and STEM activities. We did not hold a program during Spring Break.  This month the program included Book Hunts, Geoboard, literacy challenges, pattern blocks. Students created a Community Map with roads, signs, and LEGO buildings.

ESOL tutoring – 62 tutors and 62 learners met to work on English Language skills.

Exhibits
Wy’East Artisans Guild at Sandy Library. In this exhibit, artists explore mystery books, the mystery of life, and other mysteries in their chosen medium and in their own style. Artists include: Jennifer Bliesner, Melody Bush, Dawnna Goudie, Vern Groff, Becky Hawley, Becky Jacob, Earlean Marsh, Kimberly Nelson, Rod Stroh, Helen Von Struesen. Exhibit is up through June 27th.
 

Come into Sandy to enjoy the watercolors of local Boring resident Richard Lee through May 2nd.
