Summer Reading for all ages has begun!
Come into the library to pick up a paper log, or login to Beanstack to get started. Win great prizes!

Longest Day Parkway is back! 300 people stopped by the library booth on the route.  We handed out Summer Reading packets and giveaways.

Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS)
DHS is back in the Library!  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Computer Users
Sandy 400 sessions
Hoodland 106 sessions

Mobile Printing Send prints from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.  Once the print job is sent, it will sit in a queue waiting to be released.  Call the library on the same day to have staff release the print job. Pick up your prints in person or through our Curbside Service.  
Sandy – 37 users printed 134 jobs (314 pages)
Hoodland – 12 users printed 33 jobs (91 pages)

Library Cards  Sandy patrons created 22 ecards (139 cards in person) Hoodland (19 cards in person).

Checkouts 
Sandy – 2571 sessions. This averages 89 sessions/day (up from 83 last month) 10,211 items
Hoodland – 631 sessions.This averages 24 sessions/day (up from 23 last month) 2159 items

We checked out a total of 12,370 items(up from last month’s 11,538) through curbside pickup and browsing.

Kids Programs
Special

Summer Reading Program
Storytelling by Daniel Stevens – 13 kids and 7 adults attended.

Ongoing
Vista Apartments – 60 kids made scratch art, paper weaving, and beaded alphabet bracelets.

Sandy After School Kids’ Club – 27 kids and 12 adults made LEGO creations at LEGO Club and worked with Perler Beads at the Make & Take program 

Take & Make – 145 kids (125 Sandy, 20 Hoodland) picked up Fossil Fun! – A STEM activity from the Oregon Museum of natural and Cultural History.  Our Take & Make kits for kids are  available on the 15th with an additional video on Facebook in case you can’t make it to the Make & Take program!

Reading Tutoring – 10 one hour sessions of reading tutoring (2 tutors and 2 students each).

Read to a Dog – 20 kids read to a dog in person in the library!

Storytimes
Storytime videos were posted in our Facebook Group: Sandy and Hoodland Libraries – Storytime Parents Group.  Use numbers were recorded after 1 week. All Storytimes were presented by librarian Monica Smith – unless otherwise noted.

Teen Programs
Ongoing
Take and Make – 52 teens at Sandy and 7 at Hoodland picked up supplies to make macrame wall art.   Teen Take & Makes are available starting on the 1st of the month.

Anime Club – 6 teens attended to watch anime and connect with each other.

White Board (Passive) – Question: If you could grow up to be famous, what would you be famous for?  41 people participated.

Adult Programs
Ongoing
Take & Make – 60 people picked up Macrame Jar Hanger kits (50 Sandy, 10 Hoodland).  Adult Take & Makes are available starting on the 15th of the month.

American Red Cross Blood Drive – 22 people attended, 18 units of blood collected

Writing Group  – 13 people attended our twice monthly writing group led by volunteer Gary Dohrer.  Gary is a retired English professor with over 30 years of experience teaching writing and literature.

Computer Classes: Computer Basics – 2 people, Internet Basics – 4 people

ESOL Tutoring – 0 – 1 hour sessions (1 tutor and 1 student)

Book Clubs
Digital Book Club –  4 people discussed The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
Women’s Book Club – 6 people (4 in person, 2 through zoom) discussed City of Girls  by Elizabeth Gilbert
Men’s Book Club – 6 people discussed Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel
