Library Activities: August 2020

Summer Reading ended August 31, 2020
This summer we used the Beanstack Tracker app for iOS or Android.  We learned a lot about what works best for a mostly online program, and have a number of items we would change for a future online Summer Reading program.  Hopefully next year we can have a hybrid online/paper program.  Here are the numbers:

Upon completion, all participants received a $5 off library fine voucher. Kids and teens also got to select a book to keep for completing the program.

The adults had several components in order to complete the entire challenge. They had to read for 20 hours, write 8 book reviews, and do 9 activities.  For the reading log completion: 4 at Hoodland, 11 at Sandy.  For the book reviews: 4 at Hoodland, 9 at Sandy.

As part of the teen summer reading program, teens could pick up stem kits curbside. Here are the number of stem kits picked up:  Sandy: Binary bracelets – 58, Marshmallow castle challenge – 46, Harry Potter light up wand – 62. Hoodland: Harry Potter light up wand – 5.

Curbside pickup of holds Pickup at Sandy is 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday and 12-4pm on Sunday.  At Hoodland 10am-12pm Monday and 12-2pm Tuesday-Friday.  #s for August:  Sandy – 1421 pickups in 31.  This averages 45 pickups/day(up from 41 last month).  Hoodland –  324 pickups in 21 days.  Averages 15 pickups/day(down from 16 last month). We checked out a total of 5384 items through curbside pickup!

Book Clubs:
Women’s – Held a socially distanced meeting outdoors with 9 book club members to discuss Virgil Wander by Leif Enger.
Virtual – Our virtual Library Book Group on Facebook currently has 62 members.  3 members met to chat about what they’ve been reading.

Sit and Knit a Bit – virtual knitting group had 15 participants

Sandy Seed Library – We checked out 76 seed packets for curbside pickup. Fall seed bundles are ready for curbside pick up. They include beets, arugula, snap peas, radish, and Italian kale seeds.

Photography Group – 3 people met via zoom to catch up and talk about what they have been working on.

Public Notary – Hoodland 2 by appointment, socially distanced and outdoors!

Training – Library staff continue to do a lot of webinars/trainings.
