Library Activities: February 2022

Four new Chromeboxes added in the Fireplace Room! Paid for by the Friends of Sandy Library. Come get some work (or fun) done at the Library.

A Little Free Library sponsored by Sandy Public Library is up at Vista Apartments! A special thank you to volunteer Jim Freeman for building it.

Craft for a Cause 
In partnership with Mt. Hood Hospice to provide warmth and comfort to patients receiving end-of-life care. Knit or crochet a shawl or lap blanket.  In February & March we received 18 shawls and lap blankets.  This program ended February 28th.

We collected Valentine’s Day cards for Seniors for Sandy’s Helping Hands.  We received hundreds of cards – a great turnout!

Computer Users

Mobile Printing Send prints from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.  Once the print job is sent, it will sit in a queue waiting to be released to print.  Call the library on the same day to have staff release the print job. Pick up your prints in person or through our Curbside Service.  

Sandy – 29 users printed 71 jobs (280 pages)
Hoodland – Printer was down this month – 5 users tried to print 12 jobs (25 pages). The printer is up and running again.

Library Cards Sandy patrons created 16 ecards (74 new library accounts in person), Hoodland patrons created 2 ecards (7 in person).

Checkouts 
Sandy – 2274 sessions. Average 84 sessions/day (down from 85 last month) 8552 items
Hoodland – 570 sessions.  Average 25 sessions/day (down from 27 last month) 2345 items

We checked out a total of 10,897 items(down from last month’s 12,223) through curbside pickup and browsing.

Kids Programs
Special

Gnome scavenger Hunt – 65 kids found all the gnomes, decoded the message and got a prize.

Sandy After School Kids’ Club – 2 kids and 1 parent attended our first Make & Take program 

Hoodland After School Kids’ Club – no kids attended our first Make & Take program

Take & Make – 83 kids (50 Sandy, 20 Hoodland, 13 Vista) picked up supplies for paper plate mazes.  Our Take & Make kits for kids will be available on the 15th as usual with an additional video on Facebook in case you can’t make it to the Make & Take program!

Read to a Dog – 4 kids read to a dog virtually

Teen Space – no teens showed up to our first in person program after 2 years. 

Take and Make – 48 teens picked up miniature canvases for our mini art showcase.  Come into the library to view them in March!

Book Boxes – 10 teens received recommended reads through our book box program

Plant Swap  – 55 people attended to bring a plant cutting to share or adopt a new one to take home.

Exhibits
Love or Fear – Seven local artists work is hanging on the grey ramp wall at Sandy Library.

Hanging at Hoodland Library through April 5th is an exhibit of carved books by Melody Bush of Sandy.
