Library Activities: June 2020

Summer Reading started July 1st!  It runs July 1, 2020 – August 31, 2020
This summer join us online for summer reading with Beanstack!. Log your reading, complete activities, write book reviews, and earn virtual badges.  Get the Beanstack Tracker app for iOS or Android.

Don’t have access to the Internet? A paper option is available for Kids, Teens, and Adults upon request.  These can be picked up using our curbside service!  Call the library for details.

Upon completion, all participants will receive a $5 off library fine voucher. Kids and teens will also get to select a book to keep for completing the program.

Grand Prizes (raffle drawing):
Baby – Preschool: Duplo Set
Grades K – 5: iPad mini with an Apple Pencil
Grades 6 – 12: iPad mini with an Apple Pencil
Adults – $100 cash

The Libraries are getting ready for when we begin to open to the public (sometime in Phase 2 of the Governor’s Reopening Oregon Plan)!  We have moved out most of our furniture, have staffing plans, figured out our hours of operation, and are getting signage and protective barriers in place. 

Curbside pickup of holds and seeds – #s for June:  Sandy – 888 appointments in 30 days.  This averages 30 appointments/day(up from 23 last month).  Since LINCC libraries started sharing materials on June 19th, we have increased the number of appointments available most days to allow for increased service.  We hit our maximum # (36 or 42) of appointments on 9 days!   Hoodland –  187 appointments in 13 days.  Averages 14 appointments/day(up from 8 last month). We hit our maximum # (12 or 24) of appointments on 8 days!

Every day on the Sandy Public Library Friends Facebook Page, Thea Ellen has been posting an Early Literacy Activity to do with kids, a storytime with a famous person, something about a current topic such as Pride Monthor Juneteenth and a Library resource or other current available resource.

Inked Writing Workshop – 18 teens participated in the online writing workshop with Bree Bender.

Book Clubs:
Men’s – members met by Zoom to discuss Blowout by Rachel Maddow
Women’s – Library staff member Katie Murphy led a virtual meeting with 7 book club members to discuss what they are reading using Zoom and conference call. 
Virtual – Our virtual Library Book Group on Facebook currently has  members. 4 members of the group met to discuss Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.  

Sit and Knit a Bit – virtual knitting group had 14 participants

Sandy Seed Library – We checked out 25 seed packets in June for curbside pickup!

Public Notary – Hoodland 6 by appointment, socially distanced and outdoors!

Training – Library staff continue to do a lot of webinars/trainings.  We are currently focused on Social Justice issues as they pertain to libraries and communities.  One example is  Project Ready; Reimagining Equity and Access for Diverse Youth  – this is a 27 module curriculum.
