It’s Summer Reading time! Packets for adults, teens, and kids are ready for pick-up now! Plus we have lots of programs at Sandy Library, Hoodland Library, and Vista Apartments for school aged kids.

Special
Summer Reading Blast off Party – 119 people attended to watch a clip from the upcoming American Experience series “Chasing the Moon”, look at moon rocks lent to us by NASA, do some fun activities, eat snacks, and pick up their Summer Reading packets.

Free Comic Book Day – Sandy 77 people, Hoodland 24. Superhero crafts, a batcave, and free comic books!

Library Coffeehouse – 83 people attended to listen to the music of Now and Then, and attend the Wy’East Artisans art reception. Come see their art through the end of June! Thank you to Starbucks for the coffee donation!

Five Remarkable Women – 35 people attended this program to listen to garden author Donald Olson. This program presented in partnership with the Trillium Trails Garden Club.

Take a historical trip on the Barlow Road to Philip Foster Farm – 21 people attended this program to listen to presenter Joanne Broadhurst discuss Philip Foster Farm, Oregon’s first tourist destination, and the historical Barlow Road.

Gardening 101 – 14 people attended this program with Master Gardener Priscilla Robinson. We learned step by step, how to identify our garden spaces, prepare our soil, plan crops, and extend the growing season.

ADRC: A Doorway to Support, Wellness and Community – 5 people attended this program presented by the Aging and Disability Resource Connection.

Paint Nite –19 people attended to paint step-by-step with Melissa Lawrence.

Book Clubs:
Men’s – 10 people discussed The five people you meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
Hoodland – 10 people discussed News of the World by Paulette Jiles.
Women’s – 8 people discussed Future home of the living god : a novel by Louise Erdrich

Photography Group – 5 people met to discuss projects. 24 in Sandy, OR (How did it go), personal projects.

Special
Sandy Grade School Visits – 355 Sandy Grade School students visited the library. Monica Smith did book talks, gave tours of the library, and kids checked out books.

Ongoing
Vista Apartments – 78 kids did literacy, STEM activities, and challenge worksheets.

ESOL tutoring – 41 tutors met with 53 students in 23 days.

Training
Lara Wilent updated her Public Notary certification.

Our new staff scheduling software goes live soon! Three staff met with Peter from Schedule3w to learn the software

Programming Meeting – Sandy and Hoodland staff met to discuss our upcoming years worth of programming, including costs. We managed to agree to a programming plan within our budget constraints.
