Library Activities: May 2024

You will see new faces at Sandy and Hoodland Libraries in June!
We hired three Library Clerks (20-30 hours/week) and three On-Call Library Clerks.  They will be starting in their positions soon!

Kimberly Gomez-Ruelas started in  2015 as a Shelver. In 2019, she became an On-Call Clerk.  You will see her for 30 hours/week as a Library Clerk.  Kimberly also helps run our bilingual Spanish/English language programs at Vista Apartments and Pioneer Mobile Home Park.  Kimberly has already started her position.

Felicite Toney comes to us with significant library experience by way of Juneau, Alaska, and more recently, Hillsboro and Canby Libraries.  She begins her 30 hour/week position on June 17th.  Felicite will work one day a week at Hoodland and three days at Sandy.

Crista Doty is making a career change into libraries.  Crista moved to Oregon to be a caregiver for a family member.  Her most recent work experience was as a Legal Process Specialist in Marin County.  Crista starts her 20 hour/week position on June 12th.

Richard Camp, Emily Huffman, and Laura Skaggs are our three new On-Call Clerks.  They will begin their new positions on June 13th.

Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS)
ODHS is in the Library. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am – 3:00pm for drop-in assistance.

Vista Apartments – 77 kids attended for literacy and STEM activities.

Pioneer Mobile Home Park – 35 kids attended this new monthly outreach event for Free Comic Book Day.

LEGO Club – Sandy 8 kids and 4 adults, Hoodland 3 kids and 1 adult

STEM Club – 23 kids and 13 adults came to hear about Bats from local expert Rick Reynolds

Read to the Dog – 19 kids attended to read to Tanis

Reading Tutoring – 21 one hour sessions of reading tutoring  at Sandy (1 tutor and 1 student each).

Storytimes

*NEW* Yappy Hour – The Library counted 270 people and dogs at this inaugural event sponsored by Parks and Recreation.  We had a blast handing out frisbees and running a dog treat shell game.

Spring Celebration – 45 people came to the Library booth at Spring Celebration to make a craft and talk about the Sandy Seed Library.

5 Common Strategies for Estate Planning – 18 people attended this seminar with CEO, Jamie D. Worley of American Family Estate Preservation-Northwest

Beavers and How to Live With Them – 12 people attended

Writing Group  – 25 people attended our writing group
