Library Activities: July 2025

Summer Reading
Started June 1st and runs through August 31st.  Register online to get started now!  Go to our website to see what the reading prizes are and what programs are happening!

Farmers Markets
This month we talked to 136 (113 last month) people at the Mt Hood Farmers Market and 67 (125 last month) people at the Hoodland Farmers Market.  We collected a total of $167 (last month $171) to help us upfit the Mobile Library.  We gave away 59 Take & Makes for kids.

Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS)
ODHS in the Library is taking a break for the month of August.  They will return on September 9th.

Mobile Printing Send prints from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Call the library on the same day to have staff release the print job. Pick up your prints in person or through our Curbside Service.

Kids Programs
Special

Jugglemania! – 120(!) people attended this Summer Reading program presented by Rhys Thomas in Meinig Park.

Mountain Festival Kids Parade – 41 kids and 19 parents visited the library’s table.

Lifecycle of a Salmon – 77 kids and 43 adults attended this program at the Sandy Fish Hatchery.  Riley Berg – Teen Intern planned fun activities for 6 different stations, and people got to learn about and see large and small salmon.


Quidditch in the Park – 119 people attended this Harry Potter themed event in Bluff Park.  Kids crafted their own broomstick, played quidditch, and enjoyed some butterbeer.

The Art of Conservation: Washed Ashore – 5 kids and 5 parents attended this Summer Reading program presented by the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Powerplay for the Planet – 3 kids and 3 adults attended this Summer Reading program presented by the Museum Of Natural And Cultural History.

Ongoing
Vista Apartments – 89 kids attended a Mini Carnival, Slime Time, Reptile Man, to build catapults, Science Heroes.

Pioneer Mobile Home Park – 19 kids attended a mini-carnival

LEGO Club – Sandy 20 kids and 5 adults, Hoodland 10 kids and 6 adults

STEM Club – 9 kids and 6 Adults attended an activity day! 

Read to the Dog – 5 kids and 3 adults attended to read to Tanis in the first 2 weeks of July.  Tanis is taking a vacation now and will be back to work on August 12th. 

Reading Tutoring – 20 one hour sessions of reading tutoring  at Sandy (1 tutor and 1 student each).

Storytimes
Storytime videos were posted in our Facebook Group: Sandy and Hoodland Libraries – Storytime Parents Group.  Use numbers were recorded after 1 week. All Storytimes were presented by librarian Monica Smith – unless otherwise noted.

Sensory Storytime – Presented by Todos Juntos.  12 kids and 6 adults attended.  This storytime takes place on the First and 3rd Mondays at 10:00 am.  It is for Neurodivergent kids or kids that need more individualized attention.

Saturday Storytime  is on vacation until September!

Storytime at Hoodland Presented by Molly Espenel – 26 kids and 15 adults

Teen Programs
Special
Escape Room – 14 teens escaped.  The final group escaped in just 35 minutes!  Great job!

Ongoing

Makerspace – 14 teens attended to make a laser-engraved, highly detailed historical map of Sandy. 3 models of historical Sandy Buildings are underway: The Sandy Hotel and the first catholic church which burned down, as well as, a Teepee structure. This item when it is finished will be on display in the Sandy Historical Society Museum.

Dungeons and Dragons – 14 teens attended this fantasy tabletop role playing game

Teen Hangout – 7 teens attended to play board games – Really Loud Librarians, Tiny Laser Heist, and two games brought by teens 5 Minute Dungeon and Uno Flip

Teen Library Advisory Board (TLAB) – 4 teens attended

Adult Programs
Special
Gardening for Pollinators – 10 people attended this program presented by OSU Extension Service Master Gardeners Mary Linstrand and Tina Mori.

Ongoing
Mobile Stabilization and Outreach Unit – 7 clients and 5 service providers attended.  This unit is coordinated by Parole and Probation Officer, Amanda Denis from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office with the help of community partners: Love One, 4D, Central City Concern, Parrott Creek, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), ODHS and Clackamas Behavioral Health.   

American Red Cross Blood Drive – 51 donors and 8 staff/volunteers attended.

Creation Station – Creation Station is a twice monthly interactive program that welcomes adults with disabilities.  26 attended the 2nd Monday and 20 attended on the 4th Monday.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages tutoring –  10 one hour sessions (1 tutor and 1 student each)

Writing Group  – 29 people attended our writing group 

Fiber Arts Circle – 53 people attended in the Fireplace Room on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons

American Red Cross Blood Drive – 32 people attended and 28 donated blood

Edible Gardening Group – 12 people attended to take part in a discussion led by Teresa Barber about how to turn the things in your garden into healing balms, salves and tinctures. 

Book-a-Librarian – 3 people attended to learn about hotspot data, switching out a SIM card, and transferring items from an old tablet to a new one.
