Gardening for Wildlife – 8 people attended this presentation by Suzi Cloutier, Stewardship and Communications Manager with the Clackamas River Basin Council. Suzi has spent the past 15 years combining her love of gardening and wildlife to make beautiful and functional places to help both humans and wildlife thrive together.

Seedy Saturday – 37 people attended this seep swap/seed giveaway. Happy gardening! A bit thanks to our Seed Library Volunteers for getting the seeds for this program organized!

Katie Murphy attended a workshop called Navigating Systems: Impostor Syndrome, Stereotype Threat, and Code Switching, This workshop explored some of the systemic inequities effecting Latinx people, and communities of color more broadly (along with other marginalized identities) in our social institutions and public spaces.

All Clackamas County Libraries closed on October 14th, for our 4th all LINCC staff training day. The theme was Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Keynote Speaker was Tricia Brand, Chief Diversity Officer for Portland Community College.

Department of Human Services – We have a new partnership with DHS.  They are in the library 2 days a week to assist Sandy area citizens, and 1 day a week to work with people on skill building/resumes.  In the month of September they gave application and referral assistance to 11 people.

Friends of the Library Sidewalk Bag Sale

ADRC: A Doorway to Support, Wellness and Community – 7 people attended this program at Hoodland Library presented by the Aging and Disability Resource Connection.

Friends of Sandy Library are holding their annual book bag sale on the sidewalk on the west side of the library on July 13th and 14th!  Come buy a bag for $5 or $7 and fill it up!

Gardening 101 – 14 people attended this program with Master Gardener Priscilla Robinson. We learned step by step, how to identify our garden spaces, prepare our soil, plan crops, and extend the growing season.

Sandy Grade School Visits – 355 Sandy Grade School students visited the library. Monica Smith did book talks, gave tours of the library, and kids checked out books.

ESOL tutoring – 41 tutors met with 53 students in 23 days.

Library Advisory Board – We met this month. Go here to read about the meeting!

Programming Meeting – Sandy and Hoodland staff met to discuss our upcoming years worth of programming, including costs. We managed to agree to a programming plan within our budget constraints.

National Library Week is in April, and Libraries in Clackamas County celebrated with Food for Fines! Sandy collected for the Sandy Community Action Center, Hoodland collected 72 lbs for Neighborhood Missions.

Dia de los Niños/Children’s Day – 278 people came to take part in the celebrations!  A big thank you to all our partners who took part in the day. We gave away books, had many activities, music, a balloon artist, and snacks.

Wy’East Artisans Art Club – 73 kids worked on a project called Taking Care of Oregon, painting on 10 recycled canvases.

Library Coffeehouse – 92 people attended to listen to the music of Fergheart.  Thank you to Starbucks for the coffee donation!

Repair Fair – 74 people attended our first Repair Fair!  This program was created in coordination with Stacy Ludington at Clackamas County Sustainability & Solid Waste, and the Community Center.

Poetry workshop and Poetry SLAM – 7 people attended our poetry workshop (and reading) with John Sibley Williams, and 51 people attended the Poetry SLAM. Congratulations to our winners:
Age 8-13:  Isabella Grace Loeung with the poem, “Thicker than the Wall of China.” 
Age 14 – 18: Elizabeth Loeung with poem, “Perception’s Twisted Truth.”
Adult: Jexi Keith with the poem, “Settling in.”
Overall winner: Molly Izer with the poem, “Battle Cry.” Molly is from the 14-18 age category.

Open Mic Poetry (Hoodland) – 7 people attended to listen to poetry and encourage one another.

Senior Egg Hunt – 27 people attended to hunt for eggs in the library.  6 people won gift certificates for local businesses, everyone else got candy (including sugar free!) for their eggs, and had coffee and breakfast snacks.

Basket Making – 8 people attended and took home colorful spring baskets they made themselves.

SEED LIBRARY
How to attract butterflies to your yard – 20 people attended this talk with Master Gardener Jim Kronenberg.
Plants and Popcorn – 8 people attended the film “Bees: Tales from the Hive” in this documentary series for gardeners.

Our Sandy Seed Library volunteers have been hard at work, separating the seeds from the chaff!

Basic Computer Classes – 3 people attended sessions on mouse & keyboard basics, and Internet basics with Librarian Maureen Houck.

Photography Group – Twenty-four hours in Sandy: 24 photographer and 24 photographs, one for each hour of a day in Sandy, to showcase the different perspectives of our town. This is a collaborative, community project designed to capture the essence of Sandy. Look for  a book of 24 photographs and a display for the library wall.
