Volunteer Recognition (City-wide)
A group effort between the Community Center staff and Library staff was a big success.  89 volunteers and city staff were there to recognize the major donation of time to help run city events and services, and to advise the city on policy.

Training
We had a Library Staff Training Day this month.  Al Matecko came in to work with us on teambuilding.  He served as a Public Affairs Officer in the United States Air Force for 10 years, and then served as Director of Public Affairs for the Pacific Northwest Region of the US Forest Service for 15 years.  He develops custom based training in three prime areas: Communication, Team Building, and Safety.  As a member of the Library District Advisory Committee on behalf of Happy Valley Library, Al is an avid library user.

Mountain Festival Parade
Staff of Sandy and Hoodland Libraries were in the Mountain Festival Parade again this year! We had a great time doing our cart routine (despite technical difficulties with wheels falling off! multiple carts).

After 17 years, Susie Jenkins has retired from the Library! We held a breakfast in Susie’s honor. Best of luck to Susie, though we know we’ll still be seeing you as a library patron!

Brianna Chase is our newest full time staff person at the library. She has lot’s of energy! Even as a Substitute Clerk she volunteered to be trained to present storytime and took on the Sandy Seed Library. Thanks for joining the team as a full time staffer Brianna!

Long-time volunteer retires from Sandy Public Library
Alberta Allen volunteered time at the Sandy Library for 24 years. For most of that time, she worked two full days processing books to get them ready for check-out. We held a retirement party for her. She will be missed!

Fines for Food for National Library Week
Pay any amount in fines and the Sandy or Hoodland Library will waive a corresponding amount.  All fines paid during National Library Week will go to a local food bank. In Sandy $231.72 will be donated to the Sandy Community Action Center and in Hoodland $37.90 will be donated to the Neighborhood Missions Food Pantry to purchase items in need.

Silent Art Auction raises $705 for Art Programs at the Sandy Library!
A huge thank you to Kathy Draine for donating 9 of her still life paintings for a silent auction.

The American Library Association from this year on has designated the Monday of National Library Week as Right to Read Day in response to the (almost) doubled book banning attempts in the United States last year.

Gardening Help Needed! The Sandy Public Library needs your help to maintain our planter boxes and grounds!  This would be (most likely) a monthly event organized by a wonderful volunteer.  We are planning on replacing high-maintenance plants and moving towards becoming more bee-friendly, in coordination with the City’s Bee City initiative.  If you are interested in helping out, please use the form to let us know!   https://forms.gle/N48aevAhC8MToLzq5

**NEW!** Creation Station – Creation Station is a twice monthly interactive program that welcomes adults with disabilities.  10 people attended on the 2nd Monday of the month (Art Lab), 9 people attended the 4th Monday of the month (Maker Lab).

Civics Challenge – 28 people signed up and 8 completed our Civics Challenge.  Our Grand Prize Winner Was Steven Hook.

Plant Swap – 56 people attended to pick out new houseplants or leave them for others
