Food for Fines happened this month! We collected 488 items at Sandy and 56 items at Hoodland. As always people were very generous and over one third of the food items they donated did not go towards any fines/fees.

Storytime in the Park! Wednesdays, 10:00 am Meinig Park Gazebo In-person storytime returns Wednesdays in August. Miss Monica will read some books and we will sing songs and learn rhymes together. Masks are now required in outdoor spaces. Bring your own comfy blanket, pillow, or lawn chair to sit on.

Starting September 1, Libraries in Clackamas County will be standardizing check-out periods. New adult fiction, DVDs, Blu-rays, video games, Lucky Day items, Library of Things items, and magazines will check out for 14 days. Most other items will check out for 28 days.
UPCOMING CHANGES TO BLOCKED ACCOUNTS
When LINCC libraries closed in response to the pandemic, the account block limit—how much money can be owed on an account before it is blocked—was temporarily increased so that patrons could continue to use resources and access their account even while libraries were closed. Now that LINCC libraries have reopened, the account block limit will return to $25 on September 8. If you need to discuss your account balance or would like to make a payment on your account, please contact your local LINCC library.

The Sandy Seed Library is back! Just in time for Spring planting! Come to the west side entrance during our browsing or computer hours to access the seed library. Give us a call when you get to the library, we will let you in to browse and package your seeds. One person at a time will be admitted inside the building. If there is someone already at the Seed Library, we will take your name and phone number and call you when it is your turn. You will need your library card to take the seeds home! There is no due date on seeds, but we encourage you to learn how to save seeds for yourself and to donate back to the seed library.

February Craft for a Cause! Hearts for Teachers We had 345 Hearts for Teachers returned to the library, plus 9 beautiful banners made by Wy’East Artisans Guild!
The Sandy Seed Library is back! (In January and February 2021 we checked out 228 seed packets through curbside service!)

Mobile Printing People are utilizing our mobile printing services.Send prints from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Once the print job is sent, it will sit in a queue waiting to be released to print. Call the library on the same day to have staff release the print job. Pick up your prints through our Curbside Service. For a limited time, printing is free of charge.

Would you like to let our local teachers know how much they are appreciated? Make a heart using one of the following ideas, and drop it off at the Sandy Library by February 14th. Baskets of the hearts will be delivered to each school in the Oregon Trail School District the following day. Make sure your hearts are not addressed to specific teachers as they will be delivered at random.

Give us a call when you get to the library, we will let you in to browse and package your seeds. One person at a time will be admitted inside the building. If there is someone already at the Seed Library, we will take your name and phone number and call you when it is your turn. You will need your library card to take the seeds home! There is no due date on seeds, but we encourage you to learn how to save seeds for yourself and to donate back to the seed library.
We cancelled one day of the Computer Lab at Sandy to host a blood drive with the American Red Cross on January 13th. We registered: 18 total donors Collected: 14 pints of blood Deferred: 4 42 PATIENT LIVES SAVED!

Teen Programs Special Teen Book Boxes– NEW! Each quarter, 20 teens (grades 6th-12th) can sign up for a free 3- month subscription to our Teen Book Box service. Each month teens will receive a mystery box filled with 2-3 personalized book selections, tasty treats and a few surprises they get to keep.
We opened registration with 10 spots, and they filled within 57 minutes. We added another 10 a few days later, and they filled the same day! Because of this success, we are planning to offer early literacy and middle grade book boxes soon!

Public Notary – 1 at Hoodland
Staffing On January 24th, the Library implemented additional staffing changes and reduction of hours(in March 2020 we cancelled two regular shifts, and have had 94% fewer substitute hours during the pandemic than we had the previous year). Five staff members had a reduction in hours, and four people had significant schedule changes. All staff are currently providing our essential services including information and assistance by phone, curbside pickup of holds, planning and assembling our Take & Make programs, and shelving materials. Additionally, staff are providing virtual storytimes and events.
Tree Lighting Event – We had about 200 people drive thru on the evening of the tree lighting. 74 people viewed the livestream, we had 30 comments, and 81 people viewed it after the event on our City YouTube channel. The City Council Holiday message that was part of the livestream video – we posted separately after the event on Facebook. 28 Total Reactions, 8 Total Comments, 39 Post Engagements, 621 10+ Second Video Views.
A huge thank you to Knapp Tree Farms for their donation of the tree, City of Sandy Public Works department for hauling and setting up the tree, Mayor Pulliam for the countdown, and local resident DJ Anderson for being the event MC. This was a coordinated effort with the Transit Department (Thanks for bringing the trolleys!), Community Services, and Library staff. Thanks to all staff who gave advice and worked at the event.
Our Craft for a Cause was a huge sucess! We asked community members to make Holiday cards for Meals on Wheels clients and seniors living in Avamere Sandy and Avamere Cascadia. We needed about 450 cards, and received over 650! The additional cards went to energy assistance clients, and Christmas basket recipients through the Community Center.
Hat, scarf, and mitten trees – Sandy community members gave new hats, scarfs and mittens for organizers of the Sandy Community Dinner to hand out to attendees, and Hoodland community members gave to the food pantry. Sandy Library gathered 77 items, Hoodland Library gathered 40 items.
